Chloe wriggled her fingers at Dad in a little wave. "Miss me."

"I already do," he called over his shoulder while carrying the new battery. "Thanks again, Sunray."

"Yep." Suddenly I didn't know what to do with my hands, so I stuffed them down into my plaid shorts pockets.

Chloe gave me the same tight-lipped smile she had at the wedding with her full, pink lips. I'd worn my black button-up funeral dress to that fancy affair because that was all I had. Besides, funeral, wedding, same difference. We'd been so busy at Sunray's without Dad that I hadn't had time to go dress shopping. I did try to make an effort by dying my turquoise hair brown, but it turned chlorine-green with streaks of yellow. Not my best look. So, that was fun with all the staring and laughing from Chloe's high-class friends.

Now, her pink cheeks turned rosier when she glanced at Bernadette. "I'll just sit in the back."
