Like her business rival who shows up and offers her a deal. A tempting deal, but she shuts the door in his face anyway. Moments later, his star employee drops dead.

"Thank you. You've been very helpful," I told the two women, already backing out the door. 


On my way to Bernadette, I dug out my phone and speed-dialed Chloe. 


"Victoria, hi," she answered after only one ring. "What a wonderful surprise. Your dad's right here. IT'S VICTORIA!" 


I winced at her volume while at the same time smiling at the glee in her voice. Our relationship had certainly taken a happier turn after I traveled back in time to save her life. 


"How's my superhero doing? Do you need anything? Has your Duplicitous Dragonfly amulet helped you any yet? Listen to me rambling. After everything you've done, I can't believe you called me. I should be calling you." 


Note to self - call Chloe more often. Like, a lot so she'll get bored of me. She was so excited I could hear the tears forming in her throat, which in turn flooded my eyes. 


I blinked my way through them and said, "Listen, Chloe, I need your help." 


"Of course." She sniffed. "Anything for you."
