"Well, well, well," Travis said, strolling up to Bernadette in the library parking lot. "You must've not invited Cass, which means this is another date. I'm beginning to think you like me or something."
Studmuffin chirped as he stuck out his murder mitten for a fist-paw bump. Travis, of course, obliged his best friend.
"That's a definite yes from him." I chuckled as I handed him my wriggling familiar through the open window. "But no, I didn't invite Cass to come. No, this isn't a date, let alone another date. But yes..." For some reason, saying what I was about to say out loud burned up my cheeks and stuttered my heartbeat wildly. "I do like you."
A huge grin lit Travis's face while he pumped his fist toward the stars, careful not to jostle Studmuffin too much. "The truth shall set you free!" he declared, much too loudly.
"Hush. Remember we're not technically supposed to be here." While pretending my bones didn't still ache, I clambered out of Bernadette.
