In half a second, Studmuffin and Travis were by my side to assess the situation.
"Okay, uh, we need a sledgehammer or something heavy to take the statue's arm off."
I looked at Travis with wide eyes. "Or you could just help me get my finger out."
"Right. I thought that's what I was trying to do." He wrapped gentle fingers around my wrist, his touch calm and cool. "On the count of three. Ready?"
"Better it make four, remember?" I swallowed thickly as I stared the statue in the face. "Travis, it said my name. It knows my name."
"Maybe it's just saying hi." Travis nodded at me, his brow furrowed with concern. The fiery halo on his hair grew brighter as he leaned closer and tightened his grip on my wrist. "On four. Ready? One..."
Meanwhile, Studmuffin had used his claws to climb halfway up the statue's robed legs. He sniffed at my trapped finger and then climbed higher.
