I wiped the water from my face, studying the lake, trying to see through it to the other side. What now? Why was it here, tilted upright like this? Slowly, my hand trembling, I touched my fingertips to the water. They disappeared inside, stirring up the faintest ripple.
Inside the lake back at the Senate mansion, I'd seen images of Paul, the real Paul in his god form. Roseff had called this a lake, but what if there was more to it than that. Paul had needed it to be down here, so maybe this was like a portal to get to Paul's dimension.
So did that mean I was going to have to go through it to Paul's dimension? Signs sure seemed pointed to yes.
I didn't like this. Not one bit. I had enough troubles with the dimension I was already in. All sorts of what-ifs pinged through my head, but they were pretty much the same ones that already had when I thought our battle would take place in this dimension. I had to do it. I had to go in.
