CHAPTER 80 The Sun Always Rises

  I woke later with the morning sun bright in the window where I’d forgotten to pull the blinds. For half a breath I was only aware of being warm and feeling… happy.

  But then I blinked.

  The rumble in my ear that had sent me to sleep was now silent, but the warm bundle of fur and spit still nestled against my shoulder.

  More importantly, though, the curvy, warm body of my mate was still tangled with mine.

  Relief. Joy and relief.

  Everything in the world was right when she was there. It was that simple.

  Well, almost right. And the things that weren’t were out of her control. My heart was at peace, even if my mind wasn’t.

  Then Cara took a deep breath and turned her head so that the spot on my chest that had been hot and humid with her breath was suddenly cold as she looked around and blinked several times, then turned her head up to look at me.

  Her eyes widened. “Good morning,” she whispered. “It wasn’t a dream?”
