Tuesday started of boringly as always. I mean, I have to wake up early in the morning at five just to get ready. Every weekday is like that. I prefer the weekends. The earliest I woke up is at seven on those days. And that is because I wanted to chope the multi-purpose court first. I seriously need more sleep. But the problem is, I love sleeping late. I don't know why, but sleeping late is fun. I guess because it's my nature to go against orders. My parents always ask me to sleep at ten. I pretended to sleep, then when they went to sleep, I'll take out my tabloid and play games on it. I gotta watch out for my brother though, sometimes he woke up and told mom about me not sleeping. But I don't do this all the time. Sometimes, I'm extremely tired that I fell asleep the moment I pretended to. Curfew time ends at seven, two hours from the time I usually wake up. By the time I finished getting ready, I still have about one and a half hours left. I would use it to play my tabloid but mom will ask me to clean the house and study during this time. She said she won't disturb me in the evening, she only wanted me to spend my morning properly. School starts two hours after seven. And you must be wondering why I woke up like four hours before school. My family's punctual. My parents always emphasise punctuality. It's good though. I actually get used to waking up early. When I've finished my chores, my mom let me off after curfew time. So while waiting for Norman before heading to school together, I'll play the games on my tabloid. We're definitely not allowed to bring them to school. I always hide it in my bag. Just hoping teachers won't bother to check. So at around eight hours, Norman came out of his block and we walked to school. There were a lot of police vehicles today. Big crowds gathered outside the school in curiosity while the students entered. The first subject today was Modern History. So we walked to Miss Janet's classroom. I realised that the police business might be in relation with Miss Janet as police officers crowded Miss Janet's classroom. All her students were standing outside in curiosity and confusion.
'I don't want long winded stories Mrs Kim, I just want to know if the report saying that you share non-syllabus information with the class is correct?' i heard an officer asked sternly.
'Yes. It's true' Miss Janet replied.
Norman and I exchanged glances. I mean, how did the police find out so fast? And sharing such information is a crime? I was mad. I was mad at whoever sold Miss Janet out. My eyes search my classmates and found Fanny at one corner. I suspected her. She seemed more satisfied than afraid. I think she told her parents. She was the first to speak out to Miss Janet yesterday.
'You'll have to follow us to court Mrs Kim. Superior Anton would like to hear about this'
'No please, I was just sharing a myth. A story to pass time!'
The officers dragged her out of the classroom. They literally dragged her out. I felt bad for her. But I couldn't do anything. Neither of us can. Unless if one of us have superpowers that can defeat all the weapons the officers have, we are powerless. As soon as the officers were gone, I walked up to Fanny and punched her smug face. I saw her, she was actually smiling! She fell to the ground, her face turned red and her nose bleed a little.
'My dad's gonna hear about this Adams. You're dead!'
I wanted to punch her again but my classmates hold me back.
'What did you do that for?' some of them asked in disbelief.
That was when the other teachers arrived and oh boy, I was in deep trouble. I don't know what punishment I'm gonna get. This is actually the first big problem I've caused which deserves a torturing punishment. Well if you're a citizen of Warhem. The school called my parents. And they arrived a few minutes later with my brother. My dad was cool the whole time. My mom was hysterical. She kept glaring at me the whole time Principal Davies told his side of story. His incomplete side of story. Zayne actually felt bad for me. I love my eight year old brother. He might have spoiled my cover multiple of times but he only does that to my parents. Other than that, he'll always look out for me. He would cover for me most of times, let's say when I needed his help. He just sat beside me and leaned on me. Which actually made me felt good. I placed my arm over his shoulder for the rest of the boring meeting.
For minutes that seemed like hours, the conversation finally ended. And my parents thanked the principal (I don't know why they thanked him when he caused them trouble to come here). So we walked out of the office and to my surprise, Norman and Orion were there. They waited for me the whole time. Our school today was cancelled due to the loss of one staff member and my horrible action on a girl. So they had plenty of time to go home and enjoy the rest of the day. But they chose to stay for me. I was touched. I wanted to go to them but my mom called me. Her tone was angry. You can see from her expression as well.
'Zachary, you have done a big mistake today' she started. 'Why would you hit an innocent girl?!'
'She's not innocent mom. I swear I did it for a good reason!'
'And what's that?'
'She was smiling when the officers took Miss Janet away!' I explained remembering what I saw. Remembering Fanny's face got me mad again.
'You have proof?' my dad all along have been quiet, suddenly spoke.
I remained silent. I don't know what to say. No could be the only answer.
'Zac, I don't look badly of you for fighting the girl but I look badly that you reacted to something without proper investigation' my dad said.
'You seriously are okay with him hurting a girl?!' my mom turned to look at my dad.
I sensed she's not going to be happy for the rest of the day.
'I didn't hear Zac's side of story. I won't judge yet.' wise words from my dad.
That actually silenced my mother for a while. She understood.
'You're lucky your dad's a great person. I will still have to punish you for your actions no matter what caused it' my mom said. 'You can go and meet your friends, but this evening won't be a restful evening for you. After curfew till bedtime, you will have to do everything I ask you to do'.
I reluctantly nodded. They walked away with Zayne. I turned to see Norman and Orion still waiting.
'Did you hear everything?' i asked.
'Not if you don't want me to hear' Norman replied. Man I love this guy.
'Same for me' Orion said.
I explained to them everything. And they agreed. Based on what I saw that Fanny was smiling, they agreed that Fanny told her parents what Miss Janet shared with the class.
