Plot

As Sapphire bounded through the forest, her excitement pulled me along. For a brief moment, I allowed myself to enjoy the freedom of running, letting go of the constant weight of pack drama. But, as usual, the peace didn’t last. Sapphire slowed suddenly, her ears pricked.

We need to circle back. Something’s off, she growled.

I sighed. “Of course, something’s off. The universe wouldn’t dare let me have one damn minute of peace,” I muttered.

Less complaining, more moving. Sapphire was already turning back toward the packhouse.

Grumbling under my breath, I followed her lead, weaving silently through the trees. It didn’t take long before the faint hum of voices drifted through the air. As we crept closer, I spotted Anya pacing in a small clearing, her phone pressed to her ear. Her posture screamed nervous wreck, and Sapphire growled low in my mind.

I told you. Trouble, Sapphire snarled.
