Chapter 38: Revelations

Four dungeons in one day wasn't unheard of, but it was only heard of through large raiding parties made up upwards of ten hunters. Power rushing dungeons for the bonus to their abilities. After defeating a dungeon, hunters could experience a sort of natural 'self boost'.

A massive boost to stats but at the risk of fatigue. Dungeons required energy to enter. It would take impossible amounts of stamina to do more than three a day. Riding the high of one dungeon straight into another. For only one hunter?

It would be seemingly impossible to enter dungeons right after the other due to the natural distance between them. Dungeons needed space to appear. Low ranking dungeons C and under could cluster, but the rewards were rarely worth it. The exhaustion set in quickly, on top of travel time.

And yet, Kasper had done it.

Orion stared at the field report of his two men. The city at night sparkled behind his large chair, it was late into the night. After midnight if he dared peek at his tablet. Kasper did not only do four dungeons. She did six.

Six dungeons in one day. Low Rank D dungeons, no more then Level 12 bosses. But ...six full dungeons in one day.

The lack of profits didn't bother him, but it was dangerous for one hunter to have such…abilities. To willfully shake up the new foundations of their way of lives. Fifty years was short in the lifespan of a society, barely more than the whispers of a breath. But humans were adaptive.

"How is this possible?" Orion whispered in horror.

He saw first hand her strength, but …the stamina worried him. He bit his inner cheek before resolving himself. For his guild's safety, he would have to call a meeting of all the guild heads to speak about this matter.

Just as he reached for his cellphone, his thoughts snapped back to the terror of Mrs. Winscot and her niece. How easily Kasper snapped the woman's arm with barely even a flinch. From what he gathered, the woman was still being healed by a high level cleric. Even with such magic, the woman would be lame.

The phone shook in his hand. The alien sensation of fear unsettled him. He had been a guild leader for so long, he had forgotten what it felt like to honestly be afraid of anyone. And Orion was deeply afraid of Kasper and what she was capable of.

Oz frowned as she read Source's reply. She had been trying to figure out if she was ready to attempt the dungeon.

"I've never heard of dungeons that could refuse access. I can't trust bringing someone from my world here. Who knows how everyone would react. Maybe…two more can be found here."

She tapped out the ash of the cigarette into the small clay ashtray beside her arm. It wasn't healthy at all to smoke, but she needed a comedown after the busy day. Six dungeons would clear her for at least two months before the hunter association could even think of summoning her to work.

Her home was safe for now. Still, it meant pushing her body nearly to the breaking point. Everything hurt like when she had that horrid fever. She spent the last eight hours rushing from dungeon to dungeon. But it was worth it as she smiled in delight at her new stats.

Oz's eyes twinkled, she felt the ache in her bones lighten. She wasn't even going to question some magical economy now implanted in her head.

She tapped her inventory open. Time to splurge.
