The Owner's Proposition

Evan looked at her expectantly. She opened her mouth to argue back, but her throat couldn't even make a single sound. 

With a defeated sigh, she placed her hands on her lap and clenched them into fists.

"You're putting me on the spot," Eternity said through gritted teeth. "You can't honestly expect me to fire a girl who went through all of those things you've mentioned…"

"Oh?" Freiheit said as he raised an eyebrow, looking genuinely surprised. "I expected you to feel repelled after what I've told you. Instead, you're pitying her."

"Didn't you feel the same way? That's why you suggested Olivia be my tutor," Eternity pointed out.

Freiheit shrugged. "I would be lying if that wasn't part of the reason why I did it."

"Part?" she repeated, furrowing her eyebrows together.
