Chapter Three

The next morning, I wake without any nightmares. Which was very odd, since I have been having them every night for 10 years. I looked outside and saw that it was early, and everyone would be asleep. After lying in bed for a little longer, I decided to get out of bed, and walk to my closet and I picked out a lavender dress and matching shoes. After getting dress, I went downstairs, and went straight towards the library, some of the candles were lit, I decided to go and investigate to see who possible be up this early in the morning. When I got closer to a bookshelf that I knew could hide me, if needed. I peered around the bookshelf to see my Aunt sitting on a brown leather couch, in deep thought while holding an old blue leather book, I couldn’t see too much detail of the book, as I heard a thump next to me, when I looked down, I saw that a book fell. It must’ve been sitting on the edge of a shelves; I heard my Aunt the rustling of the chair indicating that my Aunt was getting up to investigate what or who made that noise.

Fear peaked in me, and I knew I should hide, I didn’t want Aunt to see me snooping, she doesn’t like her privacy invaded without her knowledge. I look around quickly and see there is a little hiding area behind the sofa that sits close to a bookcase. I quickly squeeze myself in the tight hiding spot and held my breath as I heard my Aunts foots steps get closer towards the spot, I was just standing a few seconds ago and a candlelight started to brighter. I could hear my blood pumping in my ears as fear kept clawing at me, hoping that my Aunt won’t see me when she looked around the bookcase. When she did arrive at the same place I was just at, I tried to make myself seem tinier than ever. The candlelight flashed in front of her face, and she waved it around to see if she could see something. I thought she was going to see me, but at the entrance to the library, I heard a meow. Must’ve been Luna, Aunt Ce got me a Turkish Angora cat when I first moved in with her as a comforter from my trauma. Luna had soft white fur, one yellow eye and one pale blue eye. She reminded me of my mother with the two different eyes, I remembered that Father used to call Mother Luna, didn’t know why, but it seemed fitting for her. With being white as a full moon and reminding me of my mother.

“Damn cat” My Aunt hissed towards the cat, after she walked back into her little nook. I slowly release a sigh of relief; she must’ve thought that Luna knocked over the book. I waited a few more seconds, before quietly creeping out of my hiding spot, I silently ran upstairs back into my room. Once I closed my door, I didn’t notice I was holding my breath. I released my breath and relaxed a little. I’m still hoping that she never saw me behind the sofa, I could feel the adrenaline was slowly leaving my body. I walked over to my bed and plonked down on top of it. All I could think about was that blue leather book that my Aunt was so intrigued in. I really wanted to have a look at that book, I’ve never seen that book in the library before. Not even in my Aunts area, just after I moved into Aunts house, I looked around the whole library. That’s when I didn’t know about it being hers. I looked at all the titles on the shelves and on the wooden table, I never saw a book that look even like that book.

I remember everything that I see, sometimes it’s a curse and others its not. I remember everything I read and every event that happens. I looked up towards the window to and saw that it was a little later in the morning. I knew that the boys would be awake now, so I grudgingly got up out of bed, straightened up my dress out and went downstairs. Everyone were in the dining room waiting for breakfast to be served, so I sat down with them and waited too. “Your up early sis” Henry said a bit shocked. “I had another nightmare, this one shocked me awake” I lied, Aunt Ce gave me a weird look, but didn’t say anything and the boys returned to their own thing. After a few minutes sitting silence, the maid brought our meals, it was just a simple breakfast of toast with blueberry jam, some fruit and black tea. We all ate in silence, it was a little tense, even the boys were being on there best behaviour, which was very bizarre.

After, I headed to the library to find something to read, but instead of reading a novel, I decided to read an herbalist book instead. It was quite interesting to read, I knew I wouldn’t be able to get lost in this book, so I decided to head down to the river to have a look at all the plant and flowers that grew there and bring the book with me. I went up to my bedroom and change out of the nice dress I was wearing as I knew my Aunt would be very upset if I ruined it. I changed into an outdoorsy dress and put my boots on. I headed back downstairs and informed my Aunt where I was going and to have one of the boys fetch me if needed. Afterwards, I headed into the direction of the river, when I get to it, I couldn’t resist the urge to take my boots off and put my feet into the water. The water was cool, the wind was a little crisp this morning, the birds chirped or played in the trees. After a few minutes of enjoy the nature, I decided to put my boots back on and get up off the ground. I dusted off the dirt, opened my book and looked around at all the plants and flowers that were near. It was quite an adventure, figuring out what things where. I learnt so much and seeing them in person was even better. After a few hours, it seemed like I have located everything around me, so I decided to head back up to the house.

When I returned, I heard chatter in the direction of the dining room, which meant that lunch has been served. I entered the dining room and sat down at my spot and waited for the maid to bring out my meal. “So, what did you do this morning Mads” Grey asked curiously as the book I placed next to me. “I was studying the herbs and flowers near the river, and I also dipped my feet into the water” I replied happily, my Aunt and Henry didn’t seem to be very interested in with my study, but Grey seemed to peak up. Grey has always been interested in herbalism. While we continued small talk about what we each did in the morning the maid brought out our meals, it was a small bowl of pumpkin soup, with bread and cider. We all finished our meals and went our separate ways to entertain ourselves until dinner. I went to the library to return the book and find something else to read, I chose The Faerie Queene. I decided to go up to my room to read instead of being in the library, this time. When I got to my room, I walked over to my bed, sat on down and got comfortable. I got lost in book, the words felt like they were circulating me as I got deeper and deeper into it, until I noticed it was getting a bit dark in my room. So, I grabbed a spill out of the jar on my bedside table to light my candle, once I did the room lit up with the dim flickering of lit, allowing me to continue reading, but before I did there was a light knock at the door. I set the book next to me on the book and headed towards the door. Standing on the other side was the maid holding a tray that contained my dinner.

I retrieved the tray, closed the door with my foot and walked back over towards my bed. I set the tray down before I sat on my bed, my meal contained, some meat, vegetables, and beans, with a glass of cider. After finishing my meal, I got back up and opened my door again. I set my tray outside my door for the maid to collect later. I closed the door, I started to feel a bit drowsy, so I walked to my closet and changed into a night gown. Climbed into bed and fell into a deep sleep.
