Episode(61) The ending? Can't even be called a victory!
SOVEREGN OF DEATH~(61)
In the Banquet hall-
The battle had ended just some few minutes already and the aura from the battle, although still heavy was already dissipating as the minutes strolled by.
Even then, the banquet hall that was once a sight that left awe and respect in others minds, it was now completely ruined.
Shards of broken glass and pieces of debris, broken pillars and wooden pieces from the destroyed chairs and tables were scattered everywhere.
It was as if a storm had passed through the entire venue.
One that was at an extremely high level at that, leaving nothing the same as it was before.
Still, the appearance of the surroundings was of little importance at this moment.
No one paid attention to this.
After such a soul stirring and heart wrenching battle, how could others care about the banquet now?
Just how many people had been slain like cabbages ready for harvest?
Blood was still splattered on the walls and puddles of red still formed a red river on the ground.
There were even pieces of flesh strewn on the walls and floors like early Christmas decorations.
Since the battle was finally over and Sullivan stuck to his word and left without causing more of a scene.
It was now time to sort out the after battle statistics and tally their losses.
Looking around one could see that their losses were made up more by the death count than anything else.
After confirming the identities of the deceased, the knights bagged what remained of the mangled body parts before carrying them out.
After this they would be carried to the morgue and hopefully properly restored to their original shape so that the mourning families wouldn't die from the shock of seeing a headless body and destroyed corpses.
Servants also tried to help but that proved utterly fruitless.
The moment they walked into the venue they would instantly start barfing up yesterday's gruel.
Some of the weaker ones even fainted directly.
It was funny since as the fell, they fell face first into the meat paste of flesh and blood.
Thus this matter was ultimately left to the knights.
Even they felt like they wanted to puke but as knights they were trained under harsh situations so they were able to handle the sight a lot better than the servants.
Crunch*
Maria walked around while examining the scene with a gloomy expression.
Every time she stepped, the glass under her feet made a crunching noise that entered her ears.
Even so she couldn't help but ignore the sound.
Her mood was extremely sour as she looked around.
Earlier she didn't take the time to look around but now that she did, it was devastating.
From what she had heard, Sullivan only moved twice! Just two times.
And yet those two times left more than a dozen bodies blasted into pieces of flesh and blood, headless or in some mangled state that was completely unrecognizable.
Overall, their losses added up to more than 50 nobles!
'What a monster'
Maria cursed inwardly.
She had faced the guy so she knew. He was really terrifying.
What more, he was toying with them the whole damn time!
It wasn't even until the end that they had all realized that Sullivan wasn't taking the battle seriously at all and didn't even use a fraction of his powers.
She even began to worry now.
Just how strong was he if he didn't use hill full abilities?
She had no way of knowing and speculation was useless because he was completely spotless when he left meaning he completely didn't even care about the beating he took.
She shook her head while thinking.
It was pointless to even think about how much of his true strength he used in the fight.
Right now she could only focus on what was in front of her first.
Just then, a familiar sage like voice entered her ears.
[That was quite the Tiring battle, isn't that right princess?]
Turning to see who it was, Maria saw that the sage had walked up to her side looking at the damages as well.
He spoke in a calm tone but Maria could see the gloom in his eyes.
After the battle had ended he had said he would collect the traces of mana left behind by the battle so he could find a way to track the demon, but based on the gloom in his eyes Maria could already guess the outcome of that little experiment.
She sighed thinking that such a powerhouse definitely wouldn't be easy to track.
[Sir Sage...you are correct]
Her head was still throbbing from the intense battle that had just occurred.
She still recalled the feeling of death that had wrapped her in its embrace and felt like if she let her guard down then Sullivan might very well return with a smirk on his face and slaughter the lot of them.
She knew very well that it was just unfounded worries but her heart was still on edge.
Having such an enemy was like knowing someone could throw a nuclear bomb in your backyard at any moment while you couldn't do anything about it at all.
That type of feeling made her feel helpless. What could she even do?
It wasn't as of she could take the entire empire and move it to some other unknown place.
In the end she couldn't help but agree with the sage on this point.
[I really didn't expect the demons to take advantage of such a night to cause trouble. They really chose the right moment to act up didn't they?]
They had all let their guards down because of their recent success.
Although the problems hidden under the surface were an eventual threat.
The short term gains had really made them think too highly of themselves.
Not to mention this was her first rodeo against demons.
No matter how strong she was or how cultured she became due to her knowledge and tutoring.
All these were just words written on a page.
She had never even experienced normal war before so how was she supposed to predict things in a war against demons?
Not to mention, sending such an OP character from the start?
Were they not afraid that the human population would explode or something?
The heroes were just summoned and even if Renji had all the cheats in the world he wouldn't be so heaven defying as to be able to face a monster like Sullivan.
Heck, she wasn't even sure he could face her even when his level improved so fighting Sullivan was clearly out of the picture.
If you send such a last boss from the start wouldn't the whole point of the war be over?
She could only sigh in relief.
Maria knew the only reason the demon left without going on a crazy killing spree was because they had sparked an interest in it.
If not she was confident that not one single one of them would survive.
Even if they all had three heads, all three would be severed in an instant.
Although she couldn't give a proper estimate of Sullivan's strength, she felt that his strength was above that limit.
In his eyes even level 80 might just be an ant.
[Well either way, we only got away because he got 'bored'.... this tells us that our current power is still far too lacking to face the demon king army head on]
The sage chuckled.
He really didn't expect the day to come where he was spared because the enemy lacked entertainment.
He, a father of magic that was worshipped by many?
Really, how far had he fallen?
Maria also nodded.
[Your right, if we are to face the enemy in the state, we are currently in...]
It would be suicide.
They would just be a bunch of cattle wasting resources only to be slaughtered like pigs.
Even if they injected themselves with chicken blood they would still be slapped to death by a single palm of that horrifying monster.
Now, Maria knew it well.
The current Floren, no. Even the current humanity was no match for the demons altogether!
With the current state of the Floren armed forces, aside from those elite battalions lead by the ten commanders including Mavis.
The rest of the knights can't even be called knights.
Most of the knights were just trainees her father had placed in their positions because they had the [Holy Knight] Trait.
Although it sounded like a rare a glorious job, it was a pretty common trait.
Aside from being able to use holy power they were all just ordinary knights which led to the current state of the Floren army weakening.
Maria heaved an exhausted sigh.
[The most frustrating of which is the hero]
Marias blue eyes traced the destroyed banquet hall.
There, in a corner not far off the hero was sitting while receiving the care of several women.
He hadn't even done much in the battle aside from embarrassing himself.
Even Maria felt like they were on the same level in terms of overall combat strength.
And he was supposed to be the hero?
Was she supposed to feel relieved placing her life in the hands of somebody like this?
That demon wasn't even the demon king and he could overpower him to the extent that Renji was like a helpless chicken.
Then what about the demon king?
Was there really even a chance at victory?
If not for the fact that he was the genuine hero now, she might have severed all his tendons as revenge for her sister right now.
She shook her head regretfully then spoke.
[Sigh, it's depressing. The power of an empire should be much more….But even with a hero we have declined to such a state]
Maria gazed at the moonlight for a while.
After a short moment, she turned with a serious expression to the sage.
[I apologize for the sudden request Sir sage, but I would like to ask for your help in assisting the heroes from another world training and build up their power. Can I ask this of you Sir Sage?]
The sage had better things to make do with his time.
He was already getting old and just researching magic and trying to find a capable successor had already taking up so much of his time and here she was wanting to add babysitting to the mix.
She knew her request was a lot but she had no choice if she wanted the outcome in the future to be different.
The sage looked at the humble princess that had no hint of arrogance.
She carried care for her subjects and hope for a brighter future as a ruler should.
He smiled.
[Of course]
Although he truly had better things to do, he didn't mind helping the princess out.
The reason he was here in this empire was to help Maria out in the first place.
Although if she was a spoiled little princess who wanted to have a right of way every time he might have just assisted her once then left the empire altogether.
However he had been there from her birth up to now and had seen how she grew up into a splendid respectable young woman.
He had decided the moment he was asked.
[How could I even think to refuse the princess's request?! Leave the training of those young brats to this one, I'll be sure to discipline them thoroughly]
He patted his chest as he announced this confidently.
'Fufu' Maria laughed seeing the old man act so confident.
Though he did have the qualifications to act confident, Maria thought it was funny seeing the old man beat his chest like a gorilla.
[Don't beat them too hard, I want them to at least be able to walk after the training]
Maria was once trained by the sage.
Her experience was rather gentle.
He didn't give her tasks that she could handle and he never asked her to make a pig fly in the sky.
However she knew it was just because the sage was fond of her.
How could she not know of others experience being trained by the sage?
It was hell!
Even his normal servants looked pale when they hear the word 'train'.
They looked so scared, it was as if they would pass out the next minute.
