Basil Jaak had borrowed a thousand dollars from Alejandro, and now he was playing Gold-Flower Betting with eight others, ten-dollar minimum, ten-thousand-dollar cap. Jaak's current hand wasn't great — he only had a pair of 8s, but no one else knew the outcome.
