Looking puzzled at Basil Jaak, Xenia Wendleton did not understand his words.


Basil Jaak explained, "You are so beautiful, only a blind person would ignore you. To tell them not to look at you is like cursing them all to be blind—don't you think that's cruel?"


"That joke isn't funny at all." Xenia Wendleton rolled her eyes, unamused by Basil Jaak's attempt at humor, but she still felt secretly pleased inside.
