Chapter 438: King of Athletics [Second update]

After the men's hundred-metre race is the hundred-metre run in the men's decathlon. The ranking method for the decathlon differs from that of single-event competitions. It's not just about who runs fastest to clinch the championship. Besides running, you need to jump high, jump far, and throw items far. In other words, standing out in one event isn't enough. You need comprehensive development in all ten events. Even without winning each one, as long as your total score tops the list you're the deserving champion.

The best achievement in the men's decathlon so far was by Czech athlete Sebrle in the IAAF World Challenge in Vorarlberg on May 28, 2001. His total score of 9,026 was the first time someone surpassed 9,000 points. Since Sebrle no one's been able to break the 9,000-point bottleneck, let alone scored 10,000.
