The night was deep and quiet, the feast concluded.


After their fill of food and wine, everyone moved to the accommodations that had been arranged for them. It was no easy task to find houses for over a hundred people in Qinchuan Pass, but luckily the enforcers were efficient. By the afternoon, everything was set—new beddings, simple furnishings, and even the water vats were filled.


After the journey from Chang'an, everyone was exhausted. Furthermore, they had drunk too much that day, staying awake till late. Yet, everyone was too concerned about the return of Ah Xi and his two companions to feel the drowsiness of fatigue.


Despite their rough and robust appearances, they were now dealing with a survival problem. They had come to Qinchuan Pass to see how Cheng Dalei would receive them. Everything hinged on Ah Xi's return.
