After a full day of thought, no helpful solutions came to mind for the solution of the ship. Between munching dried biscuits and strolling helplessly on the deck, I could only attempt to figure out what I could do to repair the ship, or at least stop it from immediately breaking apart.
It was apparent at first glance that the only way to completely fix the ship was to repair whatever it was that powered it. I had quickly managed to ascertain that the ship was fueled by some sort of energy core at one of the lower decks; a relatively inconspicuous sphere of muted brown that had been attached to the inner wall. It was the same color as the inside of the ship, so I had never really given it much attention before this, assuming it to be some kind of decoration.
However, after the ship stopped moving and I was eventually forced to hide below to shelter from the storm, I quickly noticed that the orb had turned a listless gray and appeared to have detached itself from the wall, instead rolling around on the floor as the ship swayed and tilted.
Not knowing what it was at the time, I had just picked it up to stop it from further rolling about and potentially slamming into me at some point, then placed it in a drawer and left it there.
When I finally started thinking about it, I rapidly realized the nature of the bowling-ball sized marble, and immediately traversed to the lower deck to see what could be done with it. However, it remained utterly unresponsive to any sort of stimuli. At one point, I had tried inserting it back into the hollow it had previously been in, and for a glorious moment it had remained in position… then rolled out, and fell right on my toes.
Fortunately, the orb had suffered no visible damage, but the same could not be said for my unfortunate toes, which were markedly swollen by now. In fact, by the end of the day I was nursing my unsurprisingly sore body from yesterday's ordeal while wondering about what I could do to repair the damaged parts of the ship. Clearly, since fixing the power source was a no-go, I would have to resort to making physical repairs… but I had no sort of repairing tools with me.
One would have thought that any ship should have some form of tools to repair at least minor damages, but perhaps they had assumed that the ship's energy would not run out and as such the ship would be protected. Or, to be more accurate, they thought it would not run out before the crew died out. Well, they weren't exactly wrong on that part….
Nevertheless, due to their lack of foresight, I was now in a serious pickle. There was no sort of repairs I could feasibly make… but as I slowly pondered over my options for the umpteenth time, a bolt of inspiration struck me.
