"You could be covered in slimy boils," he continued, "and I would still be standing right here, Absidy. Nothing will ever change that."
"Slimy boils?" I choked out. "Really?"
He pressed his smile into my forehead. "I'd just put a bag over your head."
I chuckled.
"Only one thing kept me going at the Byrians'." His warm breath fanned over my scales. "And she's standing right in front of me."
"I love you," I sighed into him.
"I love you too."
"Mase..."
"Yeah?"
I pulled away to read his face, and didn't hesitate a moment longer. "I'm pregnant."
He blinked. A wrinkle of confusion bunched his eyebrows, and then he leaned back on his heels as shock dropped his jaw. "With...with a baby?"
"That's usually how this works, yes," I said, grinning.
"When?"
"Uh, probably one of the times we had sex?"
"I mean when do we get to meet it...him...her...?" His eyes flared wide, and he stumbled away a few steps. "The baby."
