My World That Never Changes

After Connor slammed against the wall, Damian rushed in front of his mother and shouted:

"Not another step! Anyone moves and I'll blow them into the sky!"

"Damian, what are you doing here?!" his mother cried.

"Ahh, finally the little boy decides to show his claws," Connor mocked.

"I said, don't move!"

"You think your empty threats will stop me? Don't make me laugh, kid."

Damian launched a gust of wind at Connor, but he dodged with ease, sprinting to his right and closing in fast.

With no other option, Damian dove to the ground and sent another blast. Connor dodged again — the gust struck Tiodor, one of Connor's lackeys, instead. Connor used the distraction to grab the boy and pin him down.

"Gotcha, little buddy. Now there's nowhere to run."

"Shut the hell up, you bastard!"

Connor pulled a syringe from his pocket and injected Damian with a mysterious serum. It paralyzed the boy's body completely.

"Connor, please!" Damian's mother begged. "If you take me to Salazar, you'll get a huge reward too! Just don't take Damian!"

"Alana, haven't you heard? Salazar's done with powerless royals. Look at you — you're not even good for a political marriage anymore. Knowing that man, you've lost all your worth to him."

"Then take me! But please, leave my mother alive!" Damian pleaded.

"What are you saying, Damian?! You don't know what Salazar is like — he'll make you suffer!"

"Mom, I don't care. I've wanted to help you for so long, but you never let me. At least this way… I can do something."

"That's enough! I don't want to see you suffer more than you already have. Let me protect you for once!"

"You're insane if you think I'll let you go!"

"But you have to, Mom."

"I'll never allow—" BANG!!!

A gunshot echoed through the small room. Before she could finish her sentence, Damian's mother — Alana — was shot in the head.

Time slowed for Damian.

Her body hit the floor lifelessly. All he could do was stare in disbelief, tears welling up, blood soaking his clothes as he fell to his knees, crying.

"There we go!"

"That's it! You're the lucky one coming with us, boy!"

"No more debate — you're our prize!"

"What's that look for? I just freed you from that crazy woman. You should be happy!"

"..."

"Weird kid..."

"Tiodor! You useless waste!"

"Grab the boy and toss him in the cart."

"Sorry, kid. That's just how life works."

After finishing their dirty work, Salazar's mercenaries tied Damian up and threw him in the back of a cart. Once everything was ready, the cart started moving.

Lying there, Damian could only think about how unfair life had been to him. He had already lost his father — and now his mother, right before his eyes. And he could do nothing.

He'd misjudged Connor. He thought the man might have some shred of compassion. That was his mistake.

He hadn't yet understood how truly evil people could be. His naive conclusions had led to his mother's death.

Everything that happened that day gave him one final ingredient to grow stronger:

Letting go of compassion.

It wasn't enough to just feel hatred — he had to act on it. He had to stop worrying about consequences and unleash all the fury within him. That was the missing piece.

He began to believe that maybe the reason people hated his mother… the reason they suffered… was because he had never done anything to stop it.

He realized he had to change. The world wasn't going to — because the world was cruel.

And now, he knew for sure: karma doesn't exist. Evil people always get away with it. Good people? They only suffer.

Damian no longer needed anyone's permission to act.

It was afternoon when the mercenaries' cart passed through a busy market square.

People bustled around, buying and selling. Life was thriving.

Then, the winds rose. A monstrous tornado formed out of nowhere. It lifted the cart — and not just the cart, but dozens of people — into the air. Stalls were torn apart, bodies flung, lives lost in an instant.

What had been a lively place moments ago was now drenched in blood and entrails.

After the cart was destroyed, Damian freed himself using a dagger from the wreckage.

He couldn't find the mercenaries' bodies — he assumed they were blown to pieces.

And so, he took off flying — heading toward his sisters...
