His lips left her neck only long enough to say, “If the invisible scars he left don't disappear now, I'll keep trying again and again until they do. Soon your body will know only me.” 

Her eyes were still swollen from her previous tears, but they began to water again for a far different reason than before. She tried to pull away and hide her face from him. 

“Promise me,” she uttered. “Promise me I'll never be in the same room as him ever again.” 

His fist clenched and he had to control his anger. 

Quieter than before he whispered, “I promise.”

Synopsis: 
A tumultuous childhood made Sophia fight that much harder for peace in her adulthood. Yet it would take only one meeting to shatter the average life she led as a successful bakery owner in the center of New Vista. 

She found him on a pile of garbage in an alley, bleeding from a head wound. After taking him to the hospital, he woke up not knowing who he was. The hospital referred to him as “John Doe”.

While navigating her fresh breakup, the mystery man became her source of distraction and comfort. He has a far more tender and doting side than she ever expected. Is he only like this with her?

The longer he stayed by her side, the more change she noticed within herself. There’s an undeniable pull between the two of them. Call it instincts or attraction, it felt like something she couldn’t ignore. The more time they spend together, the stronger the pull becomes. 

When she finds out who he is, any shred of safety she had before seems to disappear as a target is put on her head.

Mafia. Pheromones. Mate.

"You'll be careful, right?" Luca asked.

At the full length mirror in the bathroom, Sophia stood adjusting her bikini and the sarong she had bought that matched the one she had given Carly. Hers was green and blue with white tropical flowers decorating it. Underneath she wore her white lace up triangle bikini that she wore the first day they arrived.

As Luca watched her adjust herself and check herself out from all angles, making sure nothing was out of place or showing unnecessarily, he thought of just how little material she was wearing. He thought of not being there if someone made a pass at her.

Regrets of not bonding with her swirled around in his heart and mind and he knew it was his fault that they hadn't bonded. She had given him more than enough opportunities and now he would have to live with his decision.

Sophia turned away from the mirror and gave Luca a small smile but she rolled her eyes soon after.
