Her eyes were still swollen from her previous tears, but they began to water again for a far different reason than before. She tried to pull away and hide her face from him. 

“Promise me,” she uttered. “Promise me I'll never be in the same room as him ever again.” 

His fist clenched and he had to control his anger. 

Quieter than before he whispered, “I promise.”

Synopsis: 
A tumultuous childhood made Sophia fight that much harder for peace in her adulthood. Yet it would take only one meeting to shatter the average life she led as a successful bakery owner in the center of New Vista. 

She found him on a pile of garbage in an alley, bleeding from a head wound. After taking him to the hospital, he woke up not knowing who he was. The hospital referred to him as “John Doe”.

While navigating her fresh breakup, the mystery man became her source of distraction and comfort. He has a far more tender and doting side than she ever expected. Is he only like this with her?

The longer he stayed by her side, the more change she noticed within herself. There’s an undeniable pull between the two of them. Call it instincts or attraction, it felt like something she couldn’t ignore. The more time they spend together, the stronger the pull becomes. 

When she finds out who he is, any shred of safety she had before seems to disappear as a target is put on her head.

Mafia. Pheromones. Mate.

How I Became The Alpha Mafia Boss' Target

A few days later, Sophia finally got the courage to browse through the house a little bit more.

Ethan and Rachel were going on a jog around the perimeter of the property and Sophia wanted nothing to do with that so she decided to do something more calm.

At least, she hoped it would be calm.

Seeing Luca's childhood bedroom was going to ignite complicated feelings within her. That much she was certain about.

Not having explored much of the second floor considering it seemed to be mostly just bedrooms and there was nothing she needed to do up there, Sophia slowly walked up the grand staircase and to the hallway her friends had been staying in since they arrived there.

As she walked, she realized the ends of the hallway looked like castle towers and allowed a little sunlight into the space so it wasn't so dark and dreary during the day.
