The cloud manor reappeared in another world above what seemed like an unremarkable mountain.
There was nothing special about the mountain, but in Fang Jiuyi's eyes, the flow of spiritual qi was different.
It was guided in a way that would make someone who ventured into the mountain avoid some place.
Fang Jiuyi saw the cave that the beguiling formation was covered; aside from it, there were also defensive and warning formations.
"Is this the place?" Han Shuang asked.
"Yes."
"This seems to be in the immortal realm." Su Xin Yi said as he felt the spiritual qi from the surroundings.
"You're right." Shen Meng Yao nodded. "The spiritual energy here is much richer than the world we were in before."
"Of course it is. Previously, we were in the lower realm after all."
Fang Jiuyi and his wives arrived not far from the cave. He raised his hand and knocked in front of him, then the scene in front of him rippled like water, sending waves to the entire formation.
"Why don't we just go in?" Han Shuang asked.
"We are here as guests, not as robbers." Shen Meng Yao answered, "Little Shuang, it seems your mindset is wrong; how about we teach her manners again, big sister?"
As soon as Han Shuang heard it, she was like a cat whose tail was stepped on. "No! Don't! I already knew how to behave!"
Han Shuang immediately became obedient and just stood calmly, but you could see that her eyes were still looking around.
Meanwhile, inside the cave abode, a middle-aged man opened his eyes. He felt something had triggered his formation, so he woke up from his cultivation.
He used his spiritual sense to scan the formation and saw four people standing in front of it.
They seem to be especially looking for me. He thought.
From their way, it seems they are not enemies, as they didn't just barge in but chose to inform me through the formation. He concluded.
But who are they? I don't remember seeing them before.
Let's meet them first; it's rude to let guests keep waiting in front of the door for a long time.
Not long after, Fang Jiuyi saw the formation open. From inside, a middle-aged man was walking over.
Fang Jiuyi looked at the middle-aged man before focusing on his feet. It was one of the mysteries he never got to uncover since he knew it. He saw that the man had two feet.
It was something about which he was always curious: Kui only had one foot in their beast form, but why did they have two when they transformed into their human form?
It's illogical.
"Greetings! Fellow daoists!" The man cupped his hand.
Fang Jiuyi and his wives returned the greeting.
"For what reasons did fellow Daoists come to my humble abode?" The man asked.
"I am Fang Jiuyi, and these are my wives, Su Xin Yi, Shen Meng Yao, and Han Shuang. How should I address you, fellow daoist?" Fang Jiuyi asked courteously.
"You can call me Kui Yan." The man answered while looking at Fang Jiuyi enviously.
"The reason we came here is because we were acquainted with your ancestor. We also had an agreement with him, but we couldn't find your ancestor, so we came to you." Fang Jiuyi had a bit of difficulty as to how to explain their objective; after all, he couldn't say they came to ask for his meat, right?
"My ancestor?" Kui Yan was confused; his ancestor was long dead already, and he hadn't heard his father or grandfather talk about their ancestor having four human friends.
"Oh, it seems you are not from the main branch." Fang Jiuyi shook his head. The difficulty of explaining became higher; at least if he was from the main branch, the agreement could be activated because it was through bloodline.
"Main branch?" Kui Yan became more confused, and then he began to fly backwards and take defensive stances.
It was a normal reaction, as the hunt for primordial beasts was not a rare occurrence. For someone to be able to tell his disguise technique, they must have had powerful cultivation.
"You don't need to be so wary, fellow daoists, Kui Yan. If I want to do something to you, you wouldn't be able to resist even if you wanted to." Fang Jiuyi waved his hand.
Kui Yan was dragged forward against his will; he didn't even have the power to resist as he returned to the place before he flew backwards.
"What do you want?" Kui Yan's tone became harsh, and his eyes became sharp as he stared directly at Fang Jiuyi's eyes.
"Ah, sorry, did I do it too hard? I just wanted to show you that you wouldn't be able to do anything if I wanted to do something to you." Fang Jiuyi said as he released Kui Yan from the binding.
"As long as what fellow Daoists want doesn't cross my principle, I can help you." Kui Yan's tone was no longer harsh, but it was very firm.
Fang Jiuyi knew if he pushed him too hard, he would choose suicide, as it was the pride of a primordial beast.
Fang Jiuyi scratched his head. "Nothing much, it just..."
"We just want some Kui's meat for cooking ingredients." In the end, it was Han Shuang who said those sentences.
Earning stares from Su Xin Yi, which prompted her to shut up.
Kui Yan's aura suddenly erupted as all of his cultivation was on full display, and the sky suddenly became dark as dark clouds gathered. Lightning flashed, ready to strike down at anytime.
Even if they wanted to kill me, I Kui Yan would not back down without fighting!
"Fellow Daoists, you misunderstand." Fang Jiuyi hurriedly explained, "We have an agreement with your ancestor, but when we visit the Kui world, there is nothing but ruin. So we had no choice but to seek you, as you were the strongest among your clan."
"Kui world?" Kui Yan was startled upon hearing it, causing the sky to brighten again.
"Yes." Fang Jiuyi nodded.
"Wait." Kui Yan seemed to be thinking about something: "The agreement you mean is?"
"In short, your clan offered protection fees to me in the form of cooking ingredients—Kui's meat." Even though what he said was a bit crude, it could explain everything perfectly.
"So, you are the supreme being my grandfather is talking about." There was reminiscence in Kui Yan's eyes.
"Supreme being?"
"Yes." Kui Yan nodded. "My grandfather was among the ones who escaped from the Kui world.
"He heard my grandfather's grandfather, the elder at that time, say with a face full of remorse and a tone full of regret amidst the red lightning that struck down, destroying everything and anything: 'If only back then we accepted that person's suggestion, we would most likely be able to get through the disaster. The old chief is still the one with the most foresight after all.'
"Are you the one who my ancestor called that person?" Kui Yan asked.
"Most likely." Fang Jiuyi nodded and seemed distracted.
He thought about the red lightning that caused the destruction of the Kui world. Just what caused the lightning to become red? It was just normal lightning when he visited a while ago. Kui Yan most likely didn't know anything, so he didn't bother to ask him about it.
"Then, senior, can you help me?" Kui Yan became respectful immediately: "I can give you my meat, but I hope you can help me gather my clansmen!" His eyes were firm and full of conviction; it was obvious that he was someone who cared a lot about his clan.
"No, I can't help you." Fang Jiuyi shook his head mercilessly and said, "I am a busy man, you see."
Kui Yan's eyes dimmed.
"But, in exchange for your meat, I can give you the location of the Kui clansmen that I know." Fang Jiuyi added, "How's about that?"
"Really?" Kui Yan's eyes are full of hope again.
"Of course, you don't have to doubt me; I am someone of my word." Fang Jiuyi patted his chest.
"Wait for a bit. Let me cut some of my meat to give to you." Kui Yan wanted to go back to his residence to complete the deal.
"Wait, fellow daoists." Fang Jiuyi stopped Kui Yan. "We don't accept meat from just any part of the Kui body. I'll let you talk to my wife about it."
He looked at Kui Yan, who seemed confused. "Dear, for the next part, I leave it to you."
"Leave it to me, husband." Su Xin Yo nodded firmly.
Not long after, Kui Yan came out of his residence again; his face was visibly paler.
"This is the meat that you want, fellow Daoists." He handed a spatial ring to Fang Jiuyi.
"Thanks you," Fang Jiuyi accepted unceremoniously.
After that, he looked at the pale Kui Yan and said, "Don't worry, fellow daoists; your sacrifice would not be in vain. Lend me your ear; I will give you some advice."
Fang Jiuyi whispered something into Kui Yan's ear, and Kui Yan's pale face was visibly becoming brighter. Then he tapped Kui Yan's forehead with his finger.
"How's that?" Fang Jiuyi asked with a smile.
"Thank you for your suggestion, senior!" Kui Yan bowed sincerely to Fang Jiuyi.
"This is a pill that my wife concocted years ago; it can speed up your recovery." Fang Jiuyi handed a vial to Kui Yan. "Don't worry about it; we also usually give pills when we collect protection fees from the Kui clan."
"Thank you, senior!"
Then, under Kui Yan's watch, Fang Jiuyi and his wives entered the Cloud Manor before flying away.
"That's..." Kui Yan, who saw it, was astonished. "The Cloud Manor!"
Meanwhile, in the cloud manor, "Darling, what did you say to him for him to be so grateful to you?" Han Shuang couldn't hold back his curiosity.
