And this is where the ranking comes in" Bree paused and stared in Vee's direction again, she also observed the expressions on the faces of other students but her eyes lingered on Vee much longer.
'He must have read about the ranking too, then why doesn't he seem intrigued like others? Even the other white-haired kid looked tense when I mentioned the ranking' she wondered to herself before continuing her explanation.
From the back of the class, Vee turned his gaze to the purple-haired woman standing on the stage only after he was sure that she wasn't watching him anymore.
" Just what's her problem? She has been staring at me too frequently" Vee mumbled with a frown on his face.
"Is something the matter?" Gustavo turned to look at Vee with a confused face, Alex also turned to stare at him with a raised eyebrow as well. They had both heard Vee mutter something but didn't hear what he had said clearly.
Vee realized that he had muttered those words out loud and was about to wave them off when Helen came to his rescue.
"Shush, you three keep quiet. Instructor Bree is about to explain about the ranking!" Helen hissed at the three of them. Being the only girl in the set, she was already acting like the queen of a pack and the others did not bother to bicker with her.
"You read about the ranking too?" Alex could not help but whisper to her.
"Of course I did. I'm hoping to get into the top twenty else I won't be able to pay for all the class sessions. Now shut up and let me listen" Helen replied in an earnest tone without turning her sight away from the stage.
On the stage, Bree had already begun explaining how the positions on the ranking would be decided, the number of positions available, and the benefits that would be available to the students who managed to get into the ranking.
Even those who had already read about the ranking could not still help but get excited after hearing it from their instructor, they were already dreaming of what they could achieve with so many resources.
After Bree had finished speaking on the ranking, she moved to how the students who are unable to get into the ranking and are unable to depend on their families to pay for the entrance fee for paid classes, could make money.
"There are many ways to earn money while still in the academy but very few of them are accessible to you in your first years because of the academy's restrictions on you. The academy deems you all too weak and can't go out of the academy grounds without an instructor accompanying you.
So while within the academy, you kids can earn money by becoming assistants to instructors and senior students, taking jobs at the magic beast facility, cleaning group, cafeteria, and every other facility in the academy. That's if they are willing to accept newbies like you lots" Bree explained before moving on to other rules such as the students not being allowed outside their lodges after 10 p.m. and the prohibition of violence between students.
"Anything besides that, you can read them in your manual by yourselves," Bree said and moved behind the podium as a textbook appeared in her hand, she placed it on the podium and opened the first page.
" And we will be taking our first class now. Bring out the textbook in your storage device, along with your pen and notebook" Bree instructed while the words " Introduction of magic" appeared on the board behind her.
Alex was stunned by the sudden appearance of these words even when instructor Bree had not cast any spells, he hurriedly brought out his storage device from his blazer pocket and fixed his mind on the textbook, notebook, and pen that were inside before thinking "out"
The things instantly appeared above his storage device and Alex grabbed them before placing them on the side desk that was on his right side, other students were also doing the same thing as he was so the rustling sounds of notes filled the classroom for a brief moment.
' Introduction of magic eh? Such a nostalgic topic, I wonder if my memory still remembers…' Vee trailed off halfway through his thinking as scenes of his time as a student in the northern continent flashed in his mind.
"Hey, what are you spacing out for? The instructor is about to begin the class, you better take notes or I won't give you mine" Alex poked Vee with his pen when he saw the kid daydreaming.
Vee only smiled apologetically in response before returning his focus to Bree.
"Today's class is the elemental theory and the first subject is the introduction of magic" Bree began her explanation.
" As you all might know, magic is the ability to feel mana, gain control of an element, and use spells. This is the general knowledge known to the public and I assume it is also the level of knowledge that you all also know. But do any of you truly know what magic is really about? Magic is more vast than any of you can even imagine, with different branches and theories that have yet to be discovered.
The ability to feel mana? Control over an element? Ability to use spells? All these are nothing but superficial layers of magic, true magic…can anyone give a guess?"
Bree asked as the words formed on the board behind her.
WHAT IS TRUE MAGIC?
The whole class fell into silence as they stared at the words that had magically appeared on the board, all the answers that they could come up with had already been said by Instructor Bree as the superficial layer of magic so how could they dare say it?
'Humph! Thousands of years ago, this question could be easily answered by even old women on the streets. Did the educational sector really fall after so many years?' Vee scoffed in confusion as he stared at the clueless kids sitting in the classroom.
The classroom remained silent for a few more seconds without anyone being able to answer, Bree stared at them with an expressionless face as this was within her expectation.
For some reason, her eyes happened to catch the brief moment that Vee's face showed disdain. A slight frown formed on her face when she saw this.
"You there, student Vee, mind trying to tell us what true magic is?" Bree voiced out with her sight staring right at Vee, even Gustavo could tell who she was calling out to despite them having the same name.
