"Oh, it's you, Vee. Good morning. Barely made it in time for the hoverbus to arrive so I haven't eaten breakfast yet, would you and Alex mind joining me for lunch?" Helen said sluggishly with her head slightly bubbling.
"Sure, we didn't have breakfast either but why are you like this?" Vee nodded before asking, Helen was literally the only one who looked like this in the entire class.
"Nothing much, just studying the topic we have for today and ended up reading all night" Helen replied, her voice sounding extremely tired.
'Today's topic?' Vee raised an eyebrow and quickly searched his memories before a look of realization dawned on his face but was quickly replaced by an understanding smile.
It could not be helped that Helen had become like this just from looking at the contents of the textbook even though she could barely understand them, all new students are like that and he was the same too.
As for why the others in the class including Alex as well did not look sleep-deprived, they did not bother checking today's topic yesterday; they would have ended up just like Helen had they done so.
All had to agree that Helen was really a bookworm even though she was a mage.
"Did I hear someone say lunch? Why aren't you inviting us too? We didn't eat anything for breakfast either" Gustavo's voice sounded from behind as he, Milan, and Torie walked into the class.
"Good morning!"
They all greeted each other before taking their seats.
Vee glanced at Alex who had become very friendly with these kids after yesterday, he had been much reserved with Vee when they first met.
Alex had not noticed this himself. He had completely forgotten about not interacting with other kids easily to avoid attracting trouble and attention, he was a kid he hadn't seen much after all and was currently chatting away with Gustavo.
Looking from the corner of his eyes, Vee spotted Lucas, the kid who had awakened the curse element, sitting quietly like a background picture; it was as if his seatmate did not even notice his presence.
'Such ordinary disposition, just what happened to this kid?' Vee wondered but that was it, he did not really care. Who he cared about was this white-haired kid with a protagonist star.
A calamity was already waiting for this protagonist after all which made Vee more interested in him.
"Quiet down everyone, class will begin immediately so take out your notes and listen carefully!"
A tender but piercing voice rang in everyone's ears, causing the students to quiet down and look towards the platform in front of the class where instructor Bree stood.
They all quickly brought out their notes from their storage device, their pens ready to write at any moment.
Bree stared at the students briefly before turning to the textbook on the podium, she flipped open a page before lifting her head.
"Before we begin our class for today, I'd like to ask a few questions about what I taught you yesterday," Bree said softly and many of the students immediately tensed up.
They had forgotten to read their notes yesterday as they were too occupied hanging out with their friends from other classes and comparing their instructors.
But I didn't mean that they were completely clueless, yesterday was their first class in the academy and almost everything they learned yesterday had been etched deeply in their hearts.
"Who can tell me what is the cosmos"
Silence!
Most of the students secretly stared at the purple-haired instructor with wronged looks in their eyes.
Cosmos? Really? Why not the definition of true magic!?
After no one replied for a few seconds, two people suddenly raised their hands from behind. These two were Torie and the red-eyed Helen.
Helen was pointed to answer and gave the correct answer, instructor Bree commended her before asking her to sit.
"Hey, don't you remember the answer to the question as well?"
Vee whispered to Gustavo. The kid was definitely from a grand family so he should know the answer, wouldn't he be shaming his background if he was like the others?
"Of course I knew it, I just don't feel like answering" Gustavo replied with a joking snort.
"Student Gustavo, and student Vee, name one defense type element and one support type element each" Bree's voice rang through the class, all the students turned to stare at the two when the instructor suddenly called out their names just to see the two of them in suspicious positions.
They were definitely gossiping!
"Earth element and plant element"
"Water element and healing element"
The two answered the question calmly as if they had prepared for it, Bree only let the two of them be after a warning.
Alex stared at the two through the corner of his eyes, he had been sitting right next to them but had not even noticed them talking.
'Good thing I wasn't caught gossiping with them, it would be bad to attract the teachers' attention' Alex thought to himself.
Bree asked a few more questions that were answered by Torie and Helen.
"Seems like only the two of you bothered to read what I taught yesterday after leaving the class or your memories are better than others, five points for both of you," Bree said and Helen revealed an excited smile while Torie's face remained calm.
Although their points were not as many as Gustavo's or Alex's, it would still boost their score for the ranking.
A student suddenly raised her hand. It was a seventeen-year-old girl with a doll-like face sitting in front.
"Yes?"
The girl stood up after getting permission from instructor Bree.
"If the ranking is supposed to determine the amount of resources a student can get and it involves all the classes of the first year, then how can you easily give out points to the students? Would it not affect those from other classes if they fall behind because of the free points you give?" The student asked.
Bree stared at her for a few seconds before shaking her head.
" The points I give will be distributed through the tests I will set. Meaning they can purposely fail a question and still get the point, either work harder or sulk" Bree said with a cold tone.
The girl shivered slightly before quietly sitting down.
"Now for today's topic," Bree said as the words.
MAGIC STAR PATTERN
Appeared on the board behind her.
"We will be learning about the magic star pattern today"
