New Year's Memory

Amanda sat on her backyard with Hugo. It had been a few days since Amanda had found Hugo, the dog was very active and playful. She was happy to have such a fun friend.

"When my son is born, please take care of him, okay? Play with him. I'm sure you'll be good friends," Amanda said as she rubbed Hugo's head.

Hugo barked happily. Amanda smiled and went back to drinking her tea. That night she waited for the fireworks that would appear at midnight, because it was New Year's Eve.

Actually, Camille had invited Amanda to come with her children to stay in the city center so that they could celebrate New Year's Eve more lively. But Amanda refused because she couldn't leave Hugo, plus she wanted to enjoy the night alone.

New Year's Eve always reminds Amanda of a mission she and William once had. A mission that she couldn't forget even though three years had passed.

Flashback

At that time, Amanda and William got a mission to sneak into a New Year's party held by important people. At the party there will be a man named Leonel Mackerward who becomes their target.

They were ordered to take the document that the man would carry because it was the only data left with the most confidential information.

That night, Amanda and William came to the party dressed in very fancy and elegant outfits. Amanda wore a sexy blue dress while William wore a black tuxedo. The two of them walked into the party venue.

"It's quite crowded here. What a nice party..." Amanda said while lightly shaking her fan.

"Yes, we need to blend in with them until Leonel arrives and we can find the documents the boss wants..." William replied.

"Understood." Amanda took William's arm and they mingled with the other guests.

While waiting for their target to arrive, the two took drinks from the waiter who went around offering a glass of wine.

"Do you think he'll show up here? What if he has a hitch so he won't come?" Amanda asked while drinking her wine.

"I got the contents of his email. It says he'll be a little late. We'll just have to wait and watch around."

"My partner is such a genius. I love it~" the woman praised.

"Yes, I'm the genius, and you're the best fighter I've got."

Amanda was a bit surprised to hear William's words to her, but she smiled sweetly. The compliment made her heart feel flowery. Although she had heard it many times, but when someone she liked complimented her, no matter how many times she heard it, it would feel special.

"Let's make sure together that this mission will go perfectly, shall we?" Amanda raised her glass and William toasted with his own.

"Sure, we'll make sure to come back with the things the boss wants."

It was exactly 11.45pm, 30 minutes after Amanda and William arrived. A blond man with a mole under his lip came to the party with two guards escorting him. He was Leonel, their target.

The eyes of the two secret agents immediately followed Leonel's every step until the man finally headed upstairs from the party venue.

They exchanged glances then nodded in agreement that the man they saw was indeed Leonel. The two immediately followed the man upstairs and silently followed him into a room.

"He went into the room, but the room is guarded by two people," Amanda whispered as she watched the room through the small mirror she had aimed to peer into.

"One of us should be able to get in there and exchange the document for a fake one," William whispered back as he took out the fake document in his hand.

Not long after, a servant came up the stairs and seemed to be heading towards the room with a tray of drinks. William and Amanda stared at each other, as if they understood what was on their partner's mind.

Slowly, William gagged the waiter and then pulled him to their hiding place. Amanda caught the tray the servant was holding and they beat the man unconscious.

"I'll be back as soon as I get the file. You stay here and make sure this one waiter doesn't wake up." William took off his black suit and only wore a white shirt with the maid's vest he had taken.

"Be careful, Willy."

William nodded and carried the tray of drinks closer to the room where Leonel was. The guards let him go inside, while Amanda still waited outside, hoping William would be okay.

Ten minutes passed, and William did not return. Amanda began to worry that something had happened to him. Every now and then she checked the situation, until finally William managed to come back out of the room.

"You took so long, I thought something happened to you. Did you get it?" Amanda asked.

"Yes, I got it. Now we have to--" As William was about to lower the tray in his hand, a glass fell over and shattered.

Hearing the shattering, the guards at the door became suspicious and approached them. Amanda hurriedly put William's coat back on and they left.

They couldn't just go downstairs, they would be spotted immediately. So they went to an open space with large windows that showed the star-filled night sky.

"He's approaching, should we just knock him out?" asked Amanda.

"No, that would be suspicious and it won't be easy to fight him. Trust me on this."

The man pushed his female partner against the wall and then lifted Amanda's legs around his waist until her thighs were exposed. He also ruffled his own clothes and took off a bit of his suit to the side.

"W-what are you trying to do?" asked Amanda confused.

"Just trust me, Amanda. Look at me, trust me."

Amanda looked into William's brown eyes and she nodded. Feeling Amanda had understood, without saying anything else, William suddenly pulled Amanda's back neck towards him and kissed her on the lips.

Amanda's eyes widened when William suddenly kissed her. She could feel the soft and warm lips of the man. She felt like melting when she felt something so happy in such an unexpected moment.

'Willy and I... K-kissing..'

At the same time, fireworks lit up the sky. Signaling that the year had changed, the colorful fireworks illuminated their New Year's Eve kiss. Carried away by the atmosphere, Amanda wrapped her arms around William's shoulders and kissed him back.

The guards who arrived there were immediately disturbed to see two people making out there.

"Tch, it's just a couple of people making out..." he cried in annoyance and left.

After making sure the man was gone, William pulled himself up and straightened his clothes again. Meanwhile, Amanda was still frozen in place because she still couldn't believe what happened earlier.

"Fuhh... He finally left too. I thought he would keep watching," William said casually.

He also glanced at Amanda who was still silent. He lightly flicked Amanda's forehead to wake her up. "Hey, why are you silent?"

"Huh? Oh yeah... I was just daydreaming a little earlier. So he left already? That's good." said Amanda who finally came to her senses.

Her heart was beating so fast because it was her first kiss, and the man who took it was the one she loved the most. Right on New Year's Eve, where everyone believed that it signaled good luck.

'Luck... Just being around you is good luck for me...' Amanda thought at the time.

"Then let's go back to the headquarters. Let's give this file to the boss before they realize it's fake," William said as he took Amanda's hand and they left the party with their New Year's victory.

For William, he was happy because his mission went well. But for Amanda, the best thing that happened in the new year was the first kiss that was so sweet and thrilling.
