Selene POV
Foxes could hide their scents and take up the resemblance of another person.
"What do you want and what have you done with my team?" I asked, gritting my teeth in annoyance.
"I can't believe you're still talking."
The woman who had disguised as Linda motioned to the men behind her who immediately came to me and seized me by both hands while she came up to me and held my jaw, forcing me to look up at her.
"Just because you're warming Noah's bed doesn't make you as sophisticated as you think you are," she said through gritted teeth.
If they wanted to kill me, they would have done so long ago. So, I decided the best approach would be to remain quiet and act unfazed. I held onto the girls, who were still sound asleep, while they shoved and dragged me to the ground floor of the hotel.
When I arrived, there were a group of people dressed in face masks, holding guns and canisters and a handful of guests and hotel staff, huddled and tied together in groups. Most of them had visible injuries, others were lying lifeless.
"Did you find her?" One man asked as soon as he heard us come in.
"Of course," the woman chuckled and pushed me towards him. "She was hiding in a cupboard. So much for a Luna,".
"What do you want from me?" I asked shouting as I stood in front of the tall man with the mask "If you wanted me, why did you have to kill so many people?".
"You know," he shrugged and in one swift motion removed the mask on his face, "For the fun of it and just because I hate werewolves. Always feel they are superior to every other animal,".
"And what did you do to Linda and my security detail?" I asked again, trying to find them in the sea of people huddled together in front of me.
"Don't worry," the man chuckled, blocking my view. "They're not here and we knew they'd be perfect traps alongside these people. So, let's play a game... Do you want to?"
"Listen," I said quietly, holding the man's gaze. "It's obvious you came for me. Let these people go and then you can tell me what exactly it is you want with me and also let my team go".
"Impressive." the man clapped his hands, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I heard you were hotshot and didn't believe it until now. They weren't wrong though, but I'm sorry, you don't make the rules here,".
"These people are innocent," I repeated, my gaze still fixed on him. "Let them go this instance or else, you won't be getting any information from me,".
I didn't even know what it was they wanted, but I just had to assume that they were here because I had something to do with Noah. Since Noah became powerful and grew his pack, he's had a lot of enemies and I know that most Alphas and Lycans use Foxes and Werecats to fight or threaten their enemies' pack a lot so perhaps, they were looking to get information about Noah from me.
But it was worth the gamble.
"Release half of the people," the man in front of me instructed the others working with him without looking away from me "If you answer one question then we will release the rest,".
"And bring back my team," I added.
"Okay," he chuckled softly.
It took some minutes before they untied half of the people who scurried away as soon as they did that.
"Olivia Simpson," the man clasped my jaws in his hand, running a finger down the side of my face. I flinched, hating his touch on my skin. I tried to jerk away from his hold, but he tightened it, pinning me closer to him.
"Don't fight me, Olivia," he said softly. "You're as beautiful and hot-headed as they say you are. If you keep this up, I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off you. So behave because you're the kind of woman I fuck,".
"What do you want?" I pulled away from his hold, this time taking a step back and draping a protective hand around the girls.
"We just wanted to try out an experiment. We want to see how important you are to the Alpha. So, tell us, Olivia... on a scale of 1 to 10, how important do you think you are to him?"
I shifted with unease, wondering where their questions were heading.
"Who uses people as threats these days?" I huffed, "C'mon if you want to get to Noah, you've got to be more creative. Besides, everyone knows that I am as ordinary as the rest of his pack members and if I would put others at risk, he wouldn't come for me. He'll prefer to save the hundreds of lives there than come for one person,"
"Oh," the man threw his head backwards as he howled with laughter "My bad, I wasn't talking about Noah dear. Oh, but that's so sad. One would think that with how devoted you are to that pack and everything you've done that you would be important... so tragic dear,".
My heart resumed its pounding. There were only two Alphas I knew... One was Noah and the other was Xavier.
"Then I think you've got the wrong person." I widened my stance, lifting my chin boldly. "I work for Alpha Noah,".
"Yeah," the man nodded "There's no denying that, but I know you've changed names and taken up a different identity ... did you think no one would know? How long were you planning to deceive everyone?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." I swallowed hard, masking the fear that coursed through my body.
"Of course, you do," the man then motioned to the woman who had disguised as Linda... "Lana, why don't you tell her what we know. I think it'll help us a lot at this point since it seems she would deny everything,".
Lana nodded and fished out a brown envelope that was on the receptionist's counter. She opened it and brought out a sheet of paper.
"You are Selene Thorne, daughter to Alpha Thorne of the Golden Moon pack, and wife to Alpha Xavier Steele who supposedly died three years ago in a plane crash..." she paused. "Do we have your attention now?"
An arrow wheezed through the air, striking one man standing next to me, and immediately he fell to the ground. The rest of them pulled out their weapons and turned to the direction the attack had come.
