"Ahhh!"
"What is this!?"
"H-Help..."
Screams arose here and there.
The miracle brought floating the likes of which the town had never experienced before.
More than floating, it felt like falling. Clearly different from the usual miracles.
"I... twisted my ankle a bit."
"This is..."
Some form of trust must've developed. The situation far exceeding expectations threw people into turmoil.
A miracle on a scale unlike ever before. But that wasn't the end this time.
Gogogogo... The sound came from the temple's peak, the mountain's direction.
That intermittent sound grew louder and more intense over time.
"What's that sound?"
"Don't know, but it's from above."
Abruptly, a man shouted.
"Water!? It's water!"
The water beginning at the Lake of Spirits, flowing gently into a stream reaching the town until now, was currently a waterfall down the mountainside.
The unleashed water showed no signs of weakening, becoming a flash flood assailing the town.
"Ah, no! Our town, our home!"
"Oh, God..."
The people could only watch helplessly as the surrounded town gradually, yet entirely, sunk beneath the surface.
"Hey, wait up. My wife's in town..."
"My son who was too sick to come... is still there..."
Though few residents remained for whatever reasons, they were powerless as their town vanished before their eyes.
Some tried rushing forth, but it was a fruitless endeavor.
"What's... that!?"
"What's happening..."
"No, stop already!"
Above the sinking town flew a flock of birds. No, not ordinary birds.
Their appearance varied, some far larger than common birds with bizarre forms I'd never seen before.
They were bird-type monsters that had hidden who knows where until now in these freakish numbers, blocking out the moonlight and darkening the surroundings.
The monsters grasped people in their talons and took to the skies.
Once airborne, the humans had no recourse while flailing about.
"They gonna eat them looks like."
"Oh God... Save us..."
But then a mystifying scene unfolded.
Just as the bird monsters seemed headed for the mountain, they dropped the humans in dry areas.
Some were haphazardly released from slightly high up, but appeared unharmed.
"Are they... helping us?"
"Carrying them away! Amazing! So amazing!"
"Oh! Truly the grace of God!"
After releasing all the humans, the birds, for whatever reason, headed in the opposite direction of where they came from - higher than the temple peak - and vanished.
Then taking off again almost immediately, they flew towards the forest on the other side.
"Perhaps they were... God's familiars."
Beginning with those words, the people offered prayers of gratitude towards the bird monsters.
