Underground

Through the conduit gathering magical energy, I had converted the massive clump of magic power about to be fired into a firework-like spell.

Dividing the enormous magic meant for killing into smaller pieces.

Despite this great accomplishment, Phoenix beside me seemed unimpressed.

Was it because he couldn't see the fireworks from here, so he couldn't feel their impact? Or maybe he'd hit his head on the falling ceiling and debris too many times and gone a little funny in the head.

"Come on, get more excited!"

"Engy..."

Phoenix turned to look at me with a serious expression.

Whenever he had that serious look, it was usually for one of two reasons—seeing a female bird he liked, or lacking composure. This time it was probably the latter.

"What are you getting all happy about! Sure, it's great some strangers we don't know got saved, but what about us! Look! The entrance is completely blocked off! We're trapped!"
