She then turned her gaze to Malacai, looking at his soul. 'Whatever the cause is, I am sure it's related to his soul. Wait, does this mean he doesn't have it since birth? Did something else happen?'
As Aine wondered about this, a clanking sound could be heard coming from the ventilation shaft.
It was quite far, but the sound echoed until it reached where they were.
"Let's check the ventilation shaft; maybe it will have another entrance to go to the new facility," Malacai suggested.
"Let me search first, then," Nerissa volunteered.
"No, let's just go together," Malacai quickly replied. He didn't want Nerissa to enter alone; if something happened, he wanted to be at her side.
But Nerissa shook her head. She wanted to be useful for Malacai. "Please let me do it by myself."
Malacai wanted to reject her request, but Aine pulled his hand and shook her head with a serious gaze. She could see it was important for Nerissa.
