Chapter 5 - Skill Match

The road to receiving quests was a hard and bumpy one. There was heavy traffic on the opening of a new server. In the history of Fairy Trail, when the second server was just about to open, the new incoming players exceeded the limit and caused all the players in the beginning village to freeze. And the people who had not yet logged on also couldn't get online. From then on, on the opening off a brand new server, Fairy Trail would temporarily increase the server limit of the village. The disaster that was the opening of the second server would never happen again.

This time's preparation for the opening of the fifteenth server was extravagant and sufficient. The entering players were divided equally into every village. Although players could be seen as far as the eye could see, it wasn't that packed to cause a problem. But receiving quests from NPC's was a different problem. Everyone looked for a certain NPC to accept quests from and to in a short moment, they had crammed together into a lump around them. Fairy Trail wouldn't let bodies overlap or pass through others thus they formed ring after ring. The ones inside couldn't come out and the ones outside couldn't come in. Many players were bouncing up and down energetically trying to pass over by going above other player's heads. Everyone was just repeatedly bouncing up and down and it was truly a cute and beautiful scene to watch.

In this situation, even the experts were helpless. Aside from them, Cana was actually overjoyed with a face of "I knew it would be like this". She looked at Gray and recorded his username: Death King.

Within the constant shouting and screaming of players, the situation slowly improved. How was it fixed? They made way for a small exit path to let the players who had finished accepting their quests and side-quests come out.

Silver commanded Death King to take a few quests and began completing them one by one. Most of them were to let the players adapt to the controls and the environment. All the quests were educational ones. Silver was certainly not that bad as to need such advices. After experiencing killing, stealing, lining up, squeezing, etc. anyways the one that were all people created certain problems, all of the quests that could be finished in the first wave were finished. Cana also observed this process from time to time. Finally, these extremely simple quests unexpectedly took a full two hours causing even Silver to helplessly sigh with sorrow: What's the point of being an expert? In the vast ocean of people, expert didn't mean anything.

"Finally done, i'm finally level 10." After turning in that last quest, he leveled up once more. He turned to Cana saying this, but found that she had already fallen asleep. Yet her head still facing the screen!

Does she still need to test my ability to stay up all night? Silver looked down and threw his jacket onto Cana's body. He turned around and went back to his playing.

Looking at the panel, after completing the first wave of quests, Death King already possessed 400 skill points.

In Fairy Trail, learning and upgrading skills required skill points. Different skills required anywhere from 10 to 50 skill points. Currently, if a max level, level 100, character finished all of the necessary quests, then it can have up to 5000 skill points. But this wasn't the limit. The skill point limit was 10000 but the remaining 5000 skill points required a certain amount of luck and strength to obtain.

In the past 15 years of Fairy Trail, not a single player account had ever possessed 10000 skill points. Not even the famous Battle God's peak account, it only possessed 9000 points, it was only 1000 points away from the maximum limit. 1000 points wasn't a lot but it wasn't also very few either. If a player used all those points on a 100 point ultimate skill, then he could learn at least learn 5 skills then upgrade them at least 5 times. For a peak level expert, this would be a huge advantage for them.

Therefore when taking these beginner quests, quests with experience and equipment rewards could be ignored but skill points were a must. Apart from this, those that rewarded attribute points were important too. Fairy Trail characters had five basic attributes: Strength, Intelligence, Vitality, Speed, and Spirit.

Strength affected physical attacks, defense, and increased maximum inventory weight.

Intelligence affected magic attacks, defense, and MP.

Speed affected the time between attacks and spells and how fast you can move from place to place.

Vitality naturally affected the HP as well as the stamina.

Spirit affected the duration and resistance o status effects.

The five main attributes naturally grew as the character leveled up. Only after level 20, when players began changing classes, did the growth rate change. As for the quests with attribute point rewards, those were fair game. Strength was for strength. Speed was for speed. Intelligence was for intelligence. For classes specialized in strength, would only choose to only do strength quests, but quest rewarding intelligence were also open to complete too.

This was also saying, if after growing your character as a specialized class, with a max level account that had finished all of the quests, the five main attributes would all be exactly the same level. Therefore all these quests should all be completed. Afterwards, equipment could be used to raise a necessary attribute.

As a result, attribute points could not be ignored. After looking at the panel, he immediately let Death King learn all skills possible.

In fairy Trail, players can do a class change at level 20. before then, there was no class and any skills from any profession could be learned as long as there were enough skill points. This was also for the convenience of the players. After advancing to level 20 and finding the perfect class for them, all of the skill points would be returned. But after changing classes, a player can only learn skills from their class skill tree. He cannot be a jack of all trades.

Even though Silver had forgotten what certain quests to do and how to beat certain instance dungeons, his skills would never be lost. Fairy Trail was very balanced, even low-leveled skills had their functions. Every person could assemble their own skill set as they pleased. Though, the amount of skill points was limited. under normal circumstances, 5000 skill points was nowhere near enough to max out all the skills. 10000 points was also not enough so players needed to choose carefully on where to put their skill points.

With respect on choosing the skills, Silver naturally had his own set ready. Although his One Spring Leaf's class was a Battle Mage, he himself was always regarded as the games textbook player. How could he have only been able to play a single class? Inevitably, only those proficient with every class had the qualifications of being called the textbook players.

Silver almost without thinking, immediately went to the skill tree and learned two level 5 beginner skills: Swift Step and Roll.

The rookie skill tree was somewhere you could learn skills from. The two skills Silver had learned were very convenient. These 10 skill points would let the character to move in two different ways.

Swift Speed increased the running speed. The skill had no cooldown used up some stamina in return. After the player's stamina was depleted, he/she would return to walking speed. To recover lost stamina, the player would either have to walk or stand still for a certain amount of time. Walking would recover it slowly, while standing still would be much faster.

Rolling Tumble, lets the character execute a rolling movement. Rolling forward, backwards, left, right, slanted, walking, running, and rolling whatever. It also had no cooldown time but used up a certain amount of time to complete.

Silver had already mastered these two skills a long time ago. He also clearly knew which skills are practical for him to use at this stage of the game.

First was Sky Slash, a Battle Mage skill. Every class had this type of knock-up skill. Their characteristics were all the same. After attacking, the target would be knocked-up. The higher the skill level, the higher they would be knocked-up and the greater the damage to the enemy. This was a commonly used skill. Silver had originally been a Battle Mage, so he chose the Battle Mage skill Sky Slash.

After that, Dragon Bite, another Battle Mage skill. It was used as a direct attack so that the enemy would be stunned. Silver also learned it because of his original characters class.

He then learned the Gunner skill Floating Shot, the Engineer skill Machine Search, the Spell Blade skill Wave Dividing Sword, the Grappler skill Backdrop, the Ninja skill Shuriken, the Blade Master skill Defend, the Elemental skill Thunder Ring, and the Priest skill Heal.

These skills didn't require a lot of skill points. They were all within 20 skill points. Death King was just only level 10, so his number of upgrades he could make on his skills were only limited. So in the end, there were still some leftover skill points. Silver didn't learn anymore skills. To him, he already had enough skills to deal with any situation at his level.

But if this skill set that had been chosen by a peak-level expert like him was seen by an ordinary player, they would definitely laugh at him.
