Forty-three

Lydia and I were on the roof of the school, and the tension in the air was tangible. And I was thinking about what I could say to Lydia without arousing suspicion.

"You're not jealous by any chance," I said with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood. I saw Lydia's expression go from angry to a little embarrassed.

"No, not at all, I don't know what you're talking about," said Lydia, looking away and blushing a little. She was a terrible liar, and I could tell that she was hiding something.

"In that case, I've got the right to flirt with anyone, so it shouldn't bother you, should it?" I say as my smirk widens. I wanted to tease her a bit.

"Yes, of course," said Lydia, but I think it was more of a lie on her part. She sounded annoyed, and I could see that she was biting her lip. It seemed easy to tease her.

"You only came to see me for this?" I asked, changing the topic.
