I'm sure most would not even bother reading this but I kind of had to write it anyways, because when I started this whole project about 3 years ago, all I had in mind was; 1. Guns 2. Machines 3. Magic and lastly, if I were to ask someone "Would you live in that kind of world?" I wanted their answers to be an immediate "Fuck no!"
Fast forward to now, the whole thing has inflated to something I couldn't put a label on. Sure, it's grimdark but it's not JUST grimdark. It's both fantasy and science-fiction and it also inspired from dieselpunk, steelpunk and cyberpunk works.
So the question is; What the fuck is Fractirea? Well, I had to make my own label. I call it... THANATOPUNK! (Corny, I know.)
Given the brutal, war-ravaged setting infused with both magic and machinery, an aesthetic that encapsulates this world would be best described as "Thanatopunk".
Thanatopunk (Θανατοπανκ)
From the Greek "Thanatos" (Θάνατος) meaning "death" and the rebellious, tech-infused ethos of "punk."
CORE THEMES
Endless War & Industrialized Death – Conflict is eternal, grinding nations, soldiers, and civilians alike into dust.
Magitech and war Machines. Arcane forces fuse with mechanized horrors, creating cursed artillery, sentient war engines, and soldiers doomed to fight forever.
Disposable Humanity along with cloning, necromancy, soul-harvesting, and bio-mechanical warfare turn people into renewable resources. Life is cheap; death is currency.
Grim Determination – In a world where hope is a flickering ember, survival itself is an act of defiance.
Trenches of the Damned,War-torn landscapes, barbed wire, shattered cities, and endless battlefields form the backbone of civilization.
VISUAL & AESTHETIC INSPIRATIONS
Brutalist megastructures, ruined fortresses and monolithic military citadels standing amidst wastelands of destruction.
Tattered uniforms, battle-worn armor, soldiers clad in a mix of steel, cloth, and crude magical enhancements.
Bloodstained fields, burning horizons and a world drenched in smoke, fire, and the remnants of massacres past and present.
Etheric trenches, war altars and sacred battlefields where magic fuels war engines, and the dead rise to fight once more.
Endless processions of the damned, clones, revenants, and living war machines march toward their inevitable demise, only to be reborn and recycled into battle.
COMPARABLE AESTHETIC
Dieselpunk, Grimdark Fantasy, Necropunk, Steelpunk, Warcore, Trenchcore and probably many others.
Well, now that you know what kind of world to imagine, have a good read and welcome to Fractirea.
