Heaven Canceller was the person Li Mo trusted the most in this city.
He was a doctor.
A doctor with both excellent medical ethics and skills.
He also possessed a certain level of **real power**. This city was built by Aleister over the course of roughly fifty years. And from beginning to end, the only person who had accompanied Aleister, watching this city grow from nothing, was likely none other than Heaven Canceller.
Praised by Aleister as the "gentlest enemy," Heaven Canceller even held the power to shut down Aleister's life-support system.
Of course, Aleister probably didn't need that life-support system to sustain his life anymore. But then again, just because it wasn't useful now didn't mean it hadn't been in the past. It was essentially the equivalent of a nuclear button.
And Aleister had handed it over to Heaven Canceller.
"I can't think of a reason why."
As Li Mo walked out of the hospital's main entrance, a series of thoughts made him curious about the relationship between Heaven Canceller and Aleister.
Decades ago, it was Heaven Canceller who had saved Aleister in the countryside of England and introduced him to Japan, the far eastern land. That doctor was one of the founders of this city.
Hypothetically, if a conflict arose between a member of the Board of Directors and Heaven Canceller, whose side would Aleister take? It seemed the only option would be Heaven Canceller.
"Then I won't think about it anymore."
Li Mo ended the chaotic thoughts in his mind. The love-hate relationship between Heaven Canceller and Aleister had nothing to do with him. No matter how much he thought about it, it wouldn't change anything.
Holding the phone he had "borrowed" (for now) from Heaven Canceller, Li Mo planned to return it after using it tonight. He casually dialed a number.
*Beep—*
The ringing eventually stopped, and a human voice came from the other end of the line.
"Hey, hey, hey! Do you know what time it is? Who dares to call me at this hour?"
It was a familiar voice, so familiar that Li Mo could almost picture the furious dog on the other end.
Kihara Noukan, a golden retriever. Literally, Aleister's dog.
A dog that relied on its master's power. Behind Kihara Noukan stood Aleister, the thickest thigh in this city. To him, the members of the Board of Directors were nothing more than disposable rags, to be discarded without a second thought.
"It's me," Li Mo said. "I was attacked. By a dark side organization called the Spark Signal Squad. My dear Kihara Noukan, do you know what's going on here?"
The other end fell silent, likely not expecting to hear Li Mo's voice from this number.
But what could Li Mo do? He had been peacefully playing Gomoku with Fremea at home when suddenly he was attacked with machine guns and explosives. As an ordinary person, it was only natural that he might have accidentally killed everyone in a moment of stress, right?
"The Spark Signal Squad, let me think. They were originally a team under the Board of Directors to prevent information leaks. Ah, they rebelled tonight! So, you were attacked, but it has nothing to do with me."
"But the problem is, they attacked me because I met with the **Dragon**. Noukan, I want to know, who leaked this information? Or is Academy City's information security so weak that even secrets of this level can be easily dug up?"
Academy City was often targeted by hackers.
The technological level here was decades ahead of the rest of the world. Every organization would crave the blueprints for such technology, unless they were magicians who didn't care about it.
"So, you've already met that one?"
"I happened to accompany them for a walk during the Angel Fall incident a few nights ago. But that's not the point. The point is, how was the information leaked? At that time, there were no living things around. I can guarantee that."
Li Mo immediately ruled out the possibility of **Underline**. If it were Aleister's doing, it wouldn't be so trivial. The Spark Signal Squad? What kind of small fry were they? If it had been someone like Accelerator, or even the now-fridge-bound **Kakine Teitoku**, it might have made sense.
—The latter had been reduced to a machine that only produced non-existent matter. How could he appear before Li Mo?
"How would I know? I'm not their boss."
"Come on, you're Aleister's dog. How could you not know? If you don't give me a clear answer, I'll rush to your place and take all your premium cigars."
"Hey, that's too cruel! Give me a few minutes."
"That's more like it."
The one Li Mo was talking to wasn't a human, but a dog. **Kihara Noukan**, Aleister's dog.
In other words, he was second only to Aleister in this city. Apart from Aleister, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Kihara Noukan didn't have to care about anyone.
Li Mo had interacted with him quite a bit during this time. Even the identity and money Li Mo was using now had been provided by him. Although Li Mo didn't know what Aleister wanted to use him for, he decided to enjoy the sugar-coated bullets first and deal with the bullets later.
"Found it. The Spark Signal Squad used to work under Kihara Gensei ."
"Kihara Gensei? What kind of name is that? How am I supposed to know what that means?"
"He's a member of the Board of Directors. Just a couple of nights ago, for unknown reasons, the Spark Signal Squad rebelled. Oh, and he also commissioned a dark side organization to hunt down the Spark Signal Squad. The Frenda you know is also involved."
"Oh."
Li Mo was indifferent. He knew Frenda had gone out to celebrate Takitsubo's discharge from the hospital. It was normal for her to get caught up in this mess. Dark side members lived on the edge, after all.
Besides, with **Kinuhata Saiai**, a Level 4 **Offense Armament** user, she would be protected.
"So, can I understand that the Spark Signal Squad was Kihara Gensei's dog, but the dog has now betrayed him?"
"You could say that."
"So, I was bitten by a dog that betrayed its owner?"
"For some reason, I feel a subtle sense of irony. So, is there anything else? If not, I'm hanging up."
"Where is Kihara Gensei?"
"Wait, I'll send you the information."
With that, Kihara Noukan unilaterally hung up the phone. But soon, he sent over the information.
The reason Li Mo was so familiar with Kihara Noukan was simple: he had become a figure like the **Dragon** or **Ladylee Tangleroad**, someone Kihara Noukan had to keep an eye on personally.
But...
Aleister hadn't restricted his actions... Did he no longer care about his plans?
Unable to guess Aleister's thoughts, Li Mo looked over the information.
"An arms dealer... So, I should just mess up with Kihara Gensei ."
Kihara Gensei, a member of the Board of Directors. He was the former boss of the Spark Signal Squad, though the squad had now slipped out of his control.
And then, it affected Li Mo.
Coincidentally, the Spark Signal Squad's demand for rebellion was to reveal information about the **Dragon**. The target of their threat wasKihara Gensei , which meant Kihara Gensei knew about **Aiwass**.
Could he have the ability to know about Li Mo's meeting with Aiwass?
For now, Li Mo marked it with a question mark.
But the Spark Signal Squad, which he had raised, had caused Li Mo losses. As the saying goes, if you're bitten by a dog, you go after the dog's owner—even if Kihara Gensei was the former owner.
There had to be an outlet to vent Li Mo's dissatisfaction. After all, Kihara Gensei wasn't a good person.
