For a long time, the dark side of Academy City had been in a state of chaos, with no rules to restrain them. The only thing they needed to worry about was the possibility of being discarded after their usefulness ran out. However, the dark side rarely sat idly by; instead, they would fight back fiercely.
The **Spark Signal** was one such group. They chose to leverage their position to secure their own interests. But one misstep led them to provoke a sleeping giant. In one fell swoop, the rules of the dark side were overturned, and the entire ecosystem was reshaped.
**Kinuhata Saiai** never imagined that she would become allies with someone she had once fought to the death. Strangely enough, she found herself quite comfortable with the arrangement.
"Kinuhata Saiai, what are you thinking about?"
A gunshot rang out, and a man using a pillar as cover behind Kinuhata Saiai was shot down. A woman with the ability **"Measured Heart"** stepped out from the shadows, the gun in her hand confirming that she was the one who had taken the shot.
"The battle isn't over yet, and you're already spacing out?" she said.
Kinuhata Saiai replied, "It's not that. These guys are super weak."
"They are weak, but this isn't the time to let your guard down. You know how important this mission is, right?" said **Gokusai Kaibi**.
The enemies they were facing this time were the most ordinary members of the dark side—a group of well-trained mercenaries armed with standard firearms. Most ability users would have a hard time dealing with guns.
Kinuhata Saiai and Gokusai Kaibi, however, were not among them.
The former's **"Nitrogen Armor"** could block bullets, while the latter's **"Measured Heart"** could prevent the dark side members from firing their guns.
Both of them were also seasoned veterans of the dark side, with plenty of combat experience.
"When I was called in for this assault, I thought there would be some heavy firepower we'd need to deal with," Kinuhata Saiai said, kicking a gun at her feet.
Kinuhata Saiai's ability, which partially utilized Accelerator's calculation formulas, allowed for automatic defense. Only heavy weapons like rocket launchers could effectively harm her.
"Hey, be careful!"
Kinuhata Saiai noticed an attack. The target was Gokusai Kaibi.
Gokusai Kaibi's ability was mental control-based, and she was essentially an ordinary ability user who could die if shot. Her way of fighting was to use her ability to create a safe environment for herself.
This meant that when faced with a sneak attack, she was no different from a normal person.
Thanks to Kinuhata Saiai's warning, Gokusai Kaibi instinctively dove to the side, but the attack still grazed her thigh.
"Looks like I'm late. How troublesome. If you had just let me out earlier, this wouldn't have happened. But, well, they're all just trash anyway. If they die, they die."
The attacker appeared in the building.
Taking advantage of the time difference, Kinuhata Saiai moved to Gokusai Kaibi's side to provide cover. She got a clear look at the attacker—a girl around twelve years old, with black hair dyed yellow at the tips. She wore a black leather outfit with studs and a white cape, though only the hood was on her head.
Kinuhata Saiai noticed the girl's fierce gaze.
"Oh, don't recognize me? Whatever. I remember you, honor student. Back then, the researchers wouldn't stop talking about how great you were. It was so annoying. I don't have a good impression of you.
Oh, right, my name is **Kuroyoru Umidori**. Like you, I'm a product of the 'Dark May Project.'"
Kuroyoru Umidori raised her hand, and nitrogen gathered into a three-meter-long spear. "Let's fight, Kinuhata Saiai."
Kinuhata Saiai said, "This is super bad!"
Her ability, "Nitrogen Armor," activated, successfully blocking the attack.
"A nitrogen spear, launched at high speed to achieve the same lethality as a gun. Super annoying. Are we dealing with the same type of ability user?"
"Please, I'm not some coward like you. Also, don't you dare leave your companion behind, or I'll kill her."
"You think you have the upper hand? When I said 'super bad,' I was talking about you, Kuroyoru Umidori."
"Huh?"
Kuroyoru Umidori suddenly felt something pierce her arms and legs. The process was completely without warning. She looked down and saw syringes.
Some kind of liquid was being injected.
A second later, Kuroyoru Umidori realized what it was.
Her head began to spin, and drowsiness overwhelmed her. She fell unconscious.
"**Frenda Seivelun**, you're super late."
"I've been using my ability to rush here non-stop. I'm lucky I didn't throw up. Let's get her to the hospital," said Frenda Seivelun, who had just arrived on the scene.
"Is everything over on your end?" Gokusai Kaibi adjusted her position. Her right leg had been pierced by Kuroyoru Umidori's attack, and blood was flowing from the wound.
She tore off a piece of her clothing and used it as a makeshift bandage to stop the bleeding and prevent herself from dying from blood loss.
Frenda Seivelun took out her phone and called the support team.
Kinuhata Saiai crouched beside Kuroyoru Umidori and poked the girl's cheek. "Super boring. This fight was way too predictable. Did Kuroyoru Umidori not realize we were already keeping an eye on her before the mission even started?"
"This operation has been in the works for days. It's normal for us to have detailed information. We have the Board Director backing us," Gokusai Kaibi said, having finished treating her wound.
Kinuhata Saiai nodded. "Having a backer feels super great! Back then, those guys gave orders without any respect. Now, no one dares to talk back!"
Gokusai Kaibi: "Those people were just part of the chaos. When it comes to interests, everyone is willing to fight. They should all be dealt with by now."
The fact that Frenda Seivelun could come to support them meant that most of the operation had been completed.
"Too bad you got injured. Otherwise, this mission would've been super perfect. The Board Director only made one set of clothes for the Seivelun sisters. What a shame," Kinuhata Saiai said.
Gokusai Kaibi replied, "You mean that 'Mobile Church' outfit? Frenda bragged about it. It's like wearing a defensive structure. It's incredibly expensive. The Board Director only made one, and it was supposedly for **Fremea Seivelun**. Frenda just borrowed it from her sister."
"No wonder I thought Frenda's outfit looked super small."
Kinuhata Saiai asked, "Hey, Frenda, what's wrong?"
After so many days of working together, everyone had grown closer. Kinuhata Saiai's expression turned serious because Frenda Seivelun looked unusually grave.
"Board Director **Aleister Crowley** has temporarily left Academy City. From now on, I and two others will... act on his behalf."
Frenda Seivelun looked up from her phone and spoke these words slowly.
The three of them stood in silence until the support team arrived, exchanging uneasy glances.
Meanwhile, in District 7. **Yomikawa Aiho** had taken leave from her high-ranking position and was observing the "chaos" of the dark side as a member of Anti-Skill. If things went beyond expectations, she would step in immediately.
But the operation went smoothly. The other dark side factions were no match for Aleister Crowley's forces. All the dark side groups that had violated the rules he established had been captured, and even a large number of middlemen had been swept away.
Just as Yomikawa Aiho thought she could finally rest, she and Frenda Seivelun received a message.
"What is that guy thinking?"
Reading the message, Yomikawa Aiho suddenly felt a headache coming on. She, along with two others, was to form a small council to act on behalf of the Board Director.
This... was unprecedented.
