Indulging Her to the Skies

Emma, clutching Mrs. Harris's hand, guided her to the sofa. "Mrs. Harris, tell me, your return is because…"

"Sir came to see me yesterday, sent someone early this morning to bring me back, insisting I return to take proper care of Miss Emma," Mrs. Harris explained with evident joy.

The compensation she received working for the Sterling family far surpassed any job outside, but more importantly, Mrs. Harris genuinely worried about Emma's well-being.

"He asked you to come back?" Emma inquired, a hint of surprise in her voice.

"Yes, indeed. Sir expressed concern about my well-being, saying the other staff would be at my disposal."

"He made me promise to take exceptional care of you, Miss Emma. He really does think highly of you," Mrs. Harris remarked, scrutinizing Emma's face with concern.

Mrs. Harris's affection for Emma was akin to that for her own daughter.
