Chapter 23: Ghosts Were People Too

Charlotte's POV

PRESENT DAY

When it was finally ok for Scarlett to sleep, I made up the spare room on the first floor for her and quietly made my way upstairs to my own bedroom. I knew she was exhausted, and so was I. I found Stephen waiting for me in our bed, looking sexy as ever. I slipped off my dress, climbed under the covers and sighed in satisfaction as I curled around the perfection of his body. Paradise on earth.

"How is Scarlett," he whispered, and gave me a kiss on my forehead, "Is she ok? You were gone for a while. I was worried."

"She's ok," I mumbled in response, aware that I was already falling asleep, "Concussion, cracked ribs and a fractured wrist, but she doesn't need surgery. She's finally asleep in the spare room downstairs. She's going to be staying with us for a bit. The police are out looking for Donovan. Until they arrest him, it's best that she stays hidden and protected."
