Chapter 48: An Insane Truth

Stephen’s POV

I didn’t know how to tell her what happened. I wasn’t entirely sure myself. And the more I thought about it, the more I wondered which choice I would take. What was offered to me was beyond being reunited with Emily. I could see my children again. Not at some hazy future date, but within two days. I could be reunited with my family, something I had doubted was ever possible since I had passed.

“What was the choice,” Charlotte asked me worriedly, sitting down next to me, “What did she say?” I decided that there was no point in telling her anything but the truth of what had transpired, as insane a truth as it was. I had angered her once before by not disclosing the details of my existence, and I wasn’t going to do that again. I just wished that it was all less complicated. But the truth, I was finding, was seldom a simple thing.
