"I don't know how to make it work!" I knew he was telling the truth. In his head, the only thoughts I could read all sounded confused and concerned. Even so, this was the only way we were gonna get through this with a chance of him not dying. I tried to recall what had happened around that time. He was about to die, I know that much. Was that just it? No, then it would have activated already. There's something else to this. Hnnnnn…shit, I can't think of what it would be. I guess just go for the easy thing then?
"Marcus? Hey, Marcus!" I grabbed his shoulders, his mind fading far away to a world of panic. "Marcus, I need you to stay here on earth, alright? We won't be able to do anything if you lose it. No matter what, I won't let anything happen to you. No matter what." His brain kept racing, none of my words reaching him. Rgh…"Marcus if you turn invisible I'll give you a kiss!" His brain froze at that. He looked straight at me. He seemed to want to question if I was being serious. "I-I'm serious. I'll give you a kiss if you turn invisible and keep Sweatpants god busy. You understand?"
"I…" His face seemed so deeply out of it, until I heard one thought pass through his mind.
'I get to…kiss Mika?...'
"I got this." His serious gaze caught me off guard. I guess he really is that easy. "But, uhm…if I do this…I think I'd just rather you come over again. Is that alright?" His earnest request made my heart tickle. That was…fucking adorable.
"Sure, why not? I'll come to your place and give you a big smooch. Sounds like a deal?"
'ABSOLUTELY!'
I could only hear his thoughts. His body had completely disappeared.
…
Sweatpants rose from where he lay, picking up Marcus' head and punting it.
"Looks like I win. Haha!" He smiles wide as Marcus lands against my chest, falling into my instinctively created arm basket. No words came to my mind. For the first time in a long time, my head was absolutely empty. I…broke my promise. My head raises as something starts trickling down both sides of my face. I'm sorry Marcus…I'm so sorry. "Awww, are you crying?! Don't worry, we had a lot of fun before he left. I've never had so much fun…maybe you can change that, Yuta!" He spoke loud, his eyes focused on the Professor. "Oh god of judgment, won't you find it in your heart to smite the one who killed all your devotees? Answer me!" The ground beneath us began to crumble, but Yuta is quick to respond, grabbing hold of me and kicking off the ground, sending us high into the sky. The sight of nothing but the black of the sky fit with my hollow feelings.
"Yuta? Is that your name?" I asked.
"Yes, Mika." He responded.
"Yuta…please kill him." I asked, holding the head tight to me.
"Gladly." The bastard was quick to follow us. God sent his foot into the man's face, but was met with something unfortunate. His foot passed through his face like jello. "What the-"
"It would seem I developed something interesting from my death at the hands of that brat. I'm much more…complex." The man took hold of Yuta's foot and sent him flying back down to the ground.
"Shit-" Yuta held me tight as we both landed on one of the town's roofs. Dull pain echoed through me, but nothing serious. Panting, Yuta stands himself up as the man quickly approaches through the sky, his feet turning into pistols before crystalized balls of blood come flying out. Yuta kicks up a roof panel, letting the blood burst against it. He summons a pole of judgment as the batard's feet slam against the panel, god ramming the pole through, hoping to land a hit. Unfortunately, much like his foot, the pole merely passed through like a fork through pudding. The bastard pushes through, wrapping his hands around Yuta's neck, turning them into burning magma. Yuta lets out a scream as his skin and flesh begin to burn away. Desperate, I send a kick to his assailant's side, and get the luck of an unexpected attack.
"Fine. Your turn Miss Mind Fuck." The bastard raises his hand and, after turning it into hardened rock, bashes Yuta's head in. "That oughta keep him for a minute." Without warning, he lunges towards me, sending a fist into my stomach. I hack up blood, feeling several very fragile things inside me burst, before flying through the wall of the next building over. I groan, wanting nothing more than to cry from the pain, but force myself to stand. I see the dead body of a man missing the majority of his head due to the poor luck of falling rubble, and feel my heart ache. Fuck, this is real. For a moment, I consider the fact that I may be the only living person left in this whole town. How the hell did it get to this point? I grit my teeth, starting to stand, when I feel a kick to the back of my head. "Ahaha, gotcha! Now stay down!" He slams his foot down on my head, making me nauseous. Desperate, I grab a hold of a piece of the floor and throw it up at him.
In his state of short confusion, I roll out from under his foot and make a run for it, getting into the home's upstairs hall and making my way past the tables and fallen over wall decor. If I am…If I am the only one, then I refuse to be the only one with him. I…I'll kill him.
Marcus…
I feel for his head. It must have fallen when I was kicked. Damnit…god damnit.
"I'll kill you!" I seethe, sneaking into the next visible room.
