"So, I went out to the grocery store and bought a few things." She speaks, not looking at me as she places things into the refrigerator. "I can tell." It was literally obvious before she even before she mentioned it. We stay quiet for a few more seconds before I hear her start to voice again. "But.." she turns to face me, "before I did that, I went to another job interview." She stops to look at me as though looking for some sort of reaction from me. I won't say I'm surprised. She's been doing this shit for some time now.Going to multiple interviews and telling them how capable I am for the job. Honestly, I do not know why she won't stop trying. Seriously, she gets the job, I never show up, she tries again and the cycle continues that way. Still, I don't show any reaction when I say, "Is it for you b this time?" I'm aware it's definitely not for herself, but you never know. Maybe this time's different.
:No, it's not. But once we manage to get you the job, you have to promise me you'll go." My eyebrows arch for a bit. "You haven't got it yet? How come?" I'm curious to know why she hasn't acquired the job. She always gets each one of them. Sometimes I feel like it has something to do with her beauty.
"Well I gave them your details and tried to convince them about you but they insisted on seeing you beforehand. For some reason,I don't understand." She shrugs at her last statement and I don't know what prompts me to say what I say next, "Anna how come you never apply to any of these jobs for youdself?"
"Because I decided that I won't get employed until you do. So until you get employed, I'm going to stay here and do absolutely nothing."
"Wortif I decide not to get employed? What then?"
"Well, if that happens, then u guess we'll have to live off of the rest of the money on our accounts and probably starve to death once it's all gone. Oh, and we'll be able to pay neither the bills nor the rent, or buy any clothes for that matter, or groceries. And if all that crap happens, I'm guessing we'd probably..."
"I'll take it." I spatter the words out. I do not know why, but listening to whatever she's been saying makes the words come out.
"I'll take the job."I repeat, more to myself than to her. She's not talking anymore because she's busy creasing her forehead at me. "I haven't even told you abut the job and you're already accepting it. Are you sure you're alright?" I nod. "Yes, I know I'm blank on it all but if there's a chance this could help the both of us, I'll take it." I shift in my stool. "You know what, tell me one thing about this job. How much does it pay?" I know she knows I'm not joking because the look in my face is enough to tell how serious I am.
"The guy said three thousand dollars a week. Not sure if he was lying to me, though." She tells me but I swear I stopped listening when she mentioned the money. Damn! That's.....insane.
"Are there any bad things about this job? Illegal things, maybe?" Anna seems to contemplate my question a while. "Illegal, definetly not. Difficult, kinda. Yeah. And I'm guessing that is why the money is high though, right?"
I don't think difficult is a problem. I'm sure nothing beats the past difficult of the last eight months. I don't think anything ever will.
"Difficult's okay. Can you answer one more question?"
"Name it"
"Is it anything nanny related?"
"No."
I'm relieved she didn't hesitate on that one. That's good reassurance. I let out a deep long sigh. "Then I guess I'm taking it. When do they want to see me?"
