"He will kill you, you know." Henry who had just caught up with Richard stated.
"I will love to watch him try." His eyes were focused on the sight in front of him. Back then when they got kicked out of the palace he was just a defenceless little boy who could not defend himself but not anymore.
They continued to walk side to side and none of them disrupted the comfortable silence between them. They came to stand in front of a white painted door but before they could open it, on of the knights came over to stop them.
"You are not allowed in this side of the palace." It was the knight, and for a moment, he unsheathed his sword as a way to warn them to leave. "Leave this place this instant." The guard ordered. Richard who was still holding the door knob let it go and took slow but deliberate steps until he was a few inches away from him. He had made sure to maintain the eye contact with the man who was warily looking at him. "Walk away." His pupils dilated and so did the guard's who disappeared out of their sight.
"At least you didn't threaten him with his family."
"No hard feelings Henry." Richard who was now twisting the door knob said and once they opened it, they got inside. "Just as it should be." Richard hummed. It had been years and yet his room looked the same. His bed was attached to the wall in the middle of the room, there were word robes on on side while at the other side, there was a large window to which Richard headed towards it and drew the curtains.
He could see her room from where he stood but right now was no time to think about her. It was really hard to get her out of his head.
"He's coming here." Richard said as he saw the king walking towards the room they were in. Not long after, the door burst open and he got in. The two guards who had accompanied him stood outside so that they could protect him in case anything happened. "That was rude uncle."
"What do you really want Richard." King William got straight to the point. He was told that the both of them died and seeing him alive did not give him a good feeling.
"I want to live here." Richard replied casually. "I want to have that life you deprived me for years." He added but the king was no fool to fall for that.
"What do you really want." King William asked again while stressing every word that came out of his mouth.
"I want the position that my mother held in the courtroom." His tone was serious but as if he had said something funny, the king laughed. "You must be crazy to think that that will happen. Your mother killed our father. Do you know how much of a crime that is?"
"What if she was not the one who did it, but a minister by the name Donovan Klaus who had been given the job by my only uncle. I know that you killed your father." This time his words were not humorous because the king didn't laugh. "I have Donovan and all I need to do is snap this two fingers, and you are dead."
"Not before I kill you." King William shot back.
"You should have done that when you had a chance. Now it's too late."
There was something dark and unnerving that lurked behind those black eyes that brought tension in the room.
"So you want to dethrone me. You will never be the king. You are just a Basta..._"
"Uncle..." Richard stopped him before he could say anything out of line.
"Your mother's position was taken by someone more responsible. Maybe you should go back to where you came from." King William was firm with what he said. His sister had served as head of ministers. It was one of the highest positions and he would not allow Richard to take it.
"I am sure that you are smarter than that William. You would not want to loose your throne in such a disgraceful manner. Think about it for a minute." Richard coaxed him. Someone who had tasted power always craved for more and Richard had the taste of it. Thirst of power and revenge surged through his veins but he was not as impulsive as king William said. He was going to wait for the right time before making an attack.
"I know people like you and I know that you will get back at me. But there is one way for me to secure my throne." He was not stupid and that's why he was the king. Although he had not admitted or denied the accusations of killing the king, he was the one who did it and he did not know how much this boy knew.
"How about you make an oath of loyalty towards me.that you will never use what you know against me. A hand written promise, with your blood on it as an assurance that you will not..._"
"Sure." Richard interrupted him. "I do not want your throne. But I want to take my mother's position. I knew you were smart." His praise was coated with sarcasm and king William who could tell glared at him.
"You don't need to bring your friend along." The king who had started to leave the room stated. "I want it to be done now. Meet me in the study room." With that, the king walked out of the room.
