Movie Night

Taking my whole family to the kitchen I quickly ordered some Pizza from a local store and set about making a bunch of yummy food. Yeah I know, i was a massive softy... It was movie night though and honestly I deserved to eat junk food with my family.

We had moved to a massive theatre room that I had designed that allowed everyone to be in close proximity to each other whilst giving us all some space. As per usual I sat in the middle of the room with my first wives all sitting near me, most of the kids were on the floor around the middle, on bean bags or small couches. I decided to put on a very good and new movie, one featuring Warhammer 40k. It had been made by Henry Cavil and was a roaring success, so the public said... Thus, I had to watch it, also, I needed to inform my wives and kids about this multiverse. It would be a bit graphic but my children were meant to be future leader, gods, deities of the Veritas Imperium. They will adapt and overcome whatever is before them.

The movie started out with the usual introduction to Warhammer 40k. Grim darkness, far future, only war. My kids were all excited except for Rachel who was a bit dubious. The story switched into a darker more gritty reality as it showed one of the many Hive cities across a random knight world could Tempestus Juliei. This knight world served underneath the Imperium directly, unlike many knight worlds, and was currently having some issues with Chaos Corruption in the lower levels of said starting hive city. The entire architecture base of the Imperium was dark and gothic, dirt, soot and depression being large parts of the décor.

The screen swooped down towards a man dressed in dark robes, several lumps and bumps deforming the robes as you could see his eyes were just robotic replacements. I could tell this was an Inquisitor, there was no doubt, not many people could afford high levels of modification and very little people with such power or connection would be skulking about like this. The movie went on for a little while, us following the inquisitor as he talks to some shady figures and discusses the Chaos threat without outright asking. Skirting around asking about the chaos incursion he instead asks of strange occurrences and offers some drugs in recompense for the information. This was atypical of the Inquisition but was hitting some unique story telling elements that informed people of the type of people were dealing with.

My children were a little stunned and asked me some questions.

"Mummy... What was he offering that man?"

"Drugs honey, bad stuff that kills your brain."

"Why does he want to kill his brain?"

"Enjoyment, whilst you take it you supposedly become really happy as your brain cells die."

My kids were in full discussion as I paused the movie for a few moments, my wives looking at me; some of them facepalming. I knew my methods were very blunt and possibly jading but honestly, in comparison to some of the shit in existence, this was cute.

I unpaused the movie as my children all hushed and continued to watch. The Inquisitor quickly got his information and began to have some alcohol. The shot showed him watching his surroundings, his advanced eyes noticing several signs of mutations and other malformities. His hand tightened on the glass momentarily as an obvious symbol of chaos worshipers was presented at the far end of the building. My wives were starting to get invested now as they also realised something was about to happen.

Some more people came into the room, same symbols barely peaking out of their clothing. Normally those signs would be unseeable for any person, but this inquisitor was psychic and also had his eyes. In his vision, which we had now switched to, a square box emerged in bright green as a comms channel was opened to the Arbites within this sector. He simultaneously clicked a button in his pocket to summon his retinue, or what I assumed it to be. His eyes moved away from the men and women he had marked and started to 'mind his own business' as it were. He was actually doing target estimates as the greater scene showed a large bar with hundreds of customers.

Minutes seemingly passed as the movie did a quick cut to a point where the Inquisitor was refilling his cup. His hand was firmly placed on the side of his thigh, where his bolt pistol resided and from the looks of it, his inquisitorial sigil. He took one long drink from his cup before slamming it down on the table, his right hand grasping the bolt gun and lightly bringing it out, his hands covered in refined golden power armour as lightning crackled below it. The 'robes' were in fact made of the same material as a camo cloak was and therefor matched whatever appearance he wanted them to. His finger heavily squeezed on the trigger as he stood up and merely glanced in the Chaos Cultist's direction before unloading his bolt pistol into the locations of the chaos cultists, who were currently taking a drink.

A massive crack followed as in stead of a slow-mo, they did not even effect the time, showcasing the sheer speed and lethality of the shots. One bullet took one, the bullet severing the head of the man, as following the first came the second, the chaos cultist beside the previous one have his arm severed entirely as part of his face was shredded. There was outcries as people attempted to flee, this attempt failed for most however as very quickly Kaskrin Troopers blitzed through the door and stopped as many of them as they could. Numerous people fled out the back of the venue and some even attempted to scurry down through holes and sewer grates in the building itself.

The movie moved rapidly as it showed the people who had fled out the back being bombed from the sky with stun bombs, all of them except a few, falling unconscious. The Arbites, grey armoured men and women ran forwards and unloaded shotguns into the still conscious people. The movie panned to the sewers where a group of ten people ran through the mildewed and stinking poop water of the undercity. Speed was maintained by this group until a man with large muscles and a dark green uniform slipped from the shadows and began to smack them unconscious, following his assault were a squad of Imperial guard who came up behind him and started to cuff the assailants.

From there the movie explained the various processes that happened, through dialogue and well-timed use of flashback; for the Arbites' perspective. The whole entire story pivoted from the intense action to an in-depth political scheme and charged diplomacy between the Mechanicus and the Inquisitor to search the Noosphere for signs of possible uses of AI within the sector due to recent reports of machine malfunctions.

Honestly the movie was great and my kids were hooked, they loved the complexity of it and also the theme. They were all much like me, i enjoyed Warhammer 40k when my nerd friends told me about it back in my past life... It was a reprieve from the shit I underwent.

For the rest of the night we watched episode after episode until we were finished, my children puckered out and deeply tired, my wives looking at me in feigned tiredness.

'I guess my work is never done...'
