As the light slowly faded a golden hue covered the sky, the road bumpy and uneven, a testament to the fact this is the countryside. A car rode along this road, going slower than necessary as if an old lady was driving, but that wasn't the case.
In this car, a family of four could be seen, in the front seats were the mother and father. The father was a fairly handsome man in casual clothes, resembling that of a golfer, with glasses and his hair neatly combed back. The mother too, was attractive, wearing a cardigan and jeans and had her hair tied into a bun. Both parents had black hair and brown eyes, and they seemed like a good match.
In the back of the car were the other two, one was a teenage boy and the other was a young woman. The young woman was asleep with her head resting on the teenager's lap, she too had black hair and resembled the people in the front, probably their daughter. The teenager too looked like the people in the front, with a handsome face and a stylish haircut, you could call him attractive.
He was on his phone, seemingly texting someone from the looks of it, not minding the head on his lap.
This person just so happened to be the main character of this story, someone who will go on a bizarre and eventful ride full of powers, a secret society, powerful enemies and a lot more. Even though he was just a normal person, soon that would all change.
This boy's name is Arthur Young, an American who moved to England with his family when he was very young. Till now he's lived in the countryside, but when his dad got a job opportunity he couldn't turn down, they uprooted their lives and decided to move to the capital, London.
That's what they're doing at the moment, driving to London from Somerset, a four-hour drive.
Arthur was not happy about this, having to go to a new school and try and make friends, something he's already not very good at, he's not too thrilled about this change. He only has one friend as it is, as he's a pretty closed-off guy, finding small talk and other such social things pretty hard.
Even though Arthur didn't like the idea of moving, it wasn't as bad as his sister's unwillingness to go. She didn't feel some strong attachment to the place because of friends, a part-time job, or even school, no it's because of her crippling agoraphobia. A person with agoraphobia is afraid to leave environments they know or consider to be safe. This means many people with this refuse to leave their homes, as that's the only place they find safe.
Arthur's sister, Jenna, couldn't stomach the idea of leaving her home, so the family had to come up with a solution, one she'd be willing to compromise on. In the end, she reluctantly agreed to let them carry her to the car and drive to the new house in London when she was asleep, making sure she never woke up all the way there, a responsibility left to Arthur himself.
The car finally left the countryside and arrived at the first motorway of many, it's going to be a long journey ahead of them. The car was silent so as to not awaken Jenna, if she did awaken now it is likely she would have a panic attack.
The car journey continued, uneventful and quiet with occasional light chatter at a low volume. At one point Arthur put on his headphones and started listening to music, slowly drifting off into sleep, something Arthur's dad didn't have the privilege of doing, seeing as he was driving.
Arthur's eyes flickered open as he felt the car coming to a stop, "Are we there yet?" Arthur said after a long yawn, still clearly half asleep.
"Not yet son, only ten more minutes, but remember to be quiet, we don't want Jenna to awaken now, do we?" Arthur's dad responded in a whisper, clearly concerned for his daughter as any good dad would be.
"sorry," Arthur whispered back, now fully awake and conscious he realised his mistake and apologised for it.
"no worries," his father said back, still whispering.
And silence returned to the car, the dad going back to concentrating on driving, both the mother and sister now asleep and Arthur went back to playing with his phone, trying to distract himself until he arrives at his new house.
10 minutes go by and the car finally stops, arriving in front of a four-bedroom detached house in London, something that doesn't look it but is insanely expensive, especially because it's in a nice area in Greenwich. Something they would have never been able to afford if not for his new job.
Right now it was pitch black outside, as they left around 8 pm, so now it was midnight. Arthur's dad woke up his wife and then went to carry his still-asleep daughter to bed, thankfully she's a heavy sleeper, but before he could Arthur said that he would do it, seeing as his dad looked tired and drained from the long drive. Even though Arthur was only 16 years old, he was decently tall for his age, standing at roughly 6,2, something he inherited from his dad who was a whopping 6 foot and 5 inches. This allowed Arthur to easily carry his sister even though she was three years older than him because she was only 5 feet and 6 inches tall.
Arthur picked her up and carried her to her room, as he and his father had already visited the house before to put in furniture and WiFi and other basic stuff, so there was a bed ready for her. He gently placed her in the bed and left the room, going to his own next to finally sleep after that long ride, even though he slept already. And with that, the day was over, nothing eventful happening at all.
