Doesn't she have a shred of faith in me?

The elevator lurched to a halt before Silas could formulate a response. The doors slid open, allowing a group of chattering staff members to pile in. Their arrival forced Silas and Esme to break apart. 

Silas shot Esme a cold glare, irritated. He had come here hoping to mend things, but her obstinate defiance had only served to irk him.

'Doesn't she have a shred of faith in me?' he thought, a bitter taste coating his tongue.

He had confessed his feelings, laid his heart bare, and even assured her that he had not been serious about any woman he had dated before her. Yet, here she stood, a wall of skepticism firmly in place. What more did he need to do to convince her of his genuine love?
