Without hesitation, he grabbed the scepter.
His golden eyes seemed to pierce through the blue energy shell of the Mind Stone, directly gazing at the gem within.
Suddenly, Zane keenly sensed a lingering will on the energy shell of the Mind Stone.
A cold smile appeared at the corner of Zane's mouth as he immediately connected his own mind to it.
In the next moment, Zane felt as if he had traversed countless light-years and appeared directly in front of a tall figure.
At the other end of the universe, Thanos saw Zane following his will to find him and his expression darkened.
"Zane Sy, the God of Death, the actual leader of the Death Alliance," Thanos said coldly, a terrifying killing intent flashing in his eyes as he watched Zane's projection appear before him.
Even though Thanos gathered the Infinity Stones for the harmonious development of the universe, essentially considering himself a saint with a heart for all beings, Zane had repeatedly disrupted his plans. Consequently, Thanos harbored nothing but overwhelming killing intent towards him. Now, he wished he could kill him on the spot.
"Mad Titan, it's not good to be so angry at our first meeting," Zane teased.
Although he had long known about the existence of Thanos, the "Universe's family planner," this was their first actual encounter. Zane couldn't help but closely examine the late-stage Marvel villain.
Yes, he indeed looked very purple, with plenty of wrinkles on his chin. Calling him a big purple sweet potato wouldn't be unfair at all.
"Zane, why have you come to find me? To boast that you have obtained the Mind Stone?" Thanos asked, suddenly standing up, his eyes filled with raging anger as he stared straight into Zane's eyes.
Zane's projection, with a wicked smile on his face, met Thanos' terrifying gaze unflinchingly. For a moment, the void where their gazes clashed seemed to spark with arcs of electricity radiating in all directions.
The guards around Thanos were immediately knocked unconscious by the overwhelming presence of these two terrifying beings. Those with weaker strength had their souls shattered by the mere shockwaves of their confrontation. Only a few remained standing around Thanos. However, their trembling bodies and bulging neck veins indicated they were struggling to hold on.
Just as the tension reached its peak, a wicked smile appeared on Zane's face.
"My presence here is merely to see what the legendary Mad Titan Thanos is like. It seems you indeed live up to your reputation; you're quite an impressive person."
As Zane finished speaking, both of them simultaneously withdrew their auras. Thanos sat back on his throne, gripping the armrests tightly to suppress his anger. Reason told him that getting angry now was useless; the figure before him was just a projection. Even if he destroyed it, Zane wouldn't suffer any real loss.
Yet, seeing Zane's smiling face made Thanos' anger surge uncontrollably.
Damn it, how infuriating!
Finally, as he felt his split will about to dissipate, Zane waved at Thanos, his mischievous grin even more radiant.
"Goodbye, big purple sweet potato. I look forward to the day we truly meet."
"Oh, by the way, thank you for delivering the Mind Stone. I will make good use of it."
As Zane finished speaking, Thanos, furious to the point of near-explosion, clenched his fists so tightly that the veins on his hands bulged, and he crushed his throne with his bare hands.
His expression was terrifyingly dark as he stared intently at Zane, as if trying to etch his face into his memory.
"Don't mention it, Lord Zane. I hope your body can withstand the energy impact of two Infinity Stones. It's rare to see a young strongman like you in the universe these days. It would be a shame if you died," Thanos retorted with cold sarcasm.
Zane's mental projection merely smirked disdainfully and disappeared without saying another word.
At the same time, Zane on Earth opened his eyes, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.
Annoying someone can indeed be quite delightful, and Zane was in a great mood now. Seeing Loki still standing nervously in front of him, Zane, in high spirits, smiled warmly and patted his shoulder.
"Little Loki, since you've been so sensible, I won't hold it against you this time."
With that, Zane prepared to teleport away from this wretched place. Now that he had the Mind Stone, there was no reason to stay. Standing on a cliff in the dark, feeling the cold wind, and watching three idiots fight below wasn't amusing at all. With air conditioning and a wife at home, why would he stay here?
As Zane turned to leave, a struggle flashed in Loki's eyes, and he nervously asked, "Lord Zane, um, I..."
But halfway through his sentence, Loki abruptly stopped. For a moment, the usually eloquent Loki was at a loss for words. He didn't know how to express what he wanted to say next. Was he supposed to directly tell Zane that he planned to lead aliens to conquer his home planet? That would be suicidal!
However, giving up was something Loki found equally unacceptable. He had planned for so long, going through countless hardships and near-death experiences to finally gain Thanos' support. Giving up now was simply impossible.
Seeing Loki's hesitation, Zane suddenly gave him an enigmatic smile.
"Little Loki, do whatever you want to do. As long as you don't disturb me, I'll pretend I didn't see anything!"
Loki, who had been torn, suddenly felt immense joy. He immediately bowed respectfully to Zane and said, "Thank you, Lord Zane, for the advice. I understand."
Zane didn't bother further with the kid, teleporting back to his villa with the scepter.
When Loki, hearing no response for a while, looked up in confusion and found himself alone on the cliff, he called out softly, "Lord Zane, Lord Zane, are you still here?"
After confirming that Zane had indeed left, Loki collapsed to the ground, not caring about the dirt. He sat there, panting heavily and breaking into a cold sweat.
Only the devil knew the torment he had endured in those few short minutes. Every second had felt like a year in hell, pure agony. But thankfully, his quick wit had allowed him to survive unscathed in the end.
Although losing the scepter would make it harder to control the minds of those around him, Loki believed his eloquence would eventually allow him to manipulate them. It might just take a little more time.
These were minor concerns. The most important thing was that he had survived, and survival was what truly mattered!
However, instead of feeling elated after his brush with death, a deep sadness welled up from within Loki.
Damn it, I'm the Prince of Asgard!
