Chloé couldn't help the shrill shriek that crawled up her throat and erupted from her mouth. She screamed as though she were about to be murdered.
But then abruptly, Kemal's figure was gone. Chloé stared around the room, shaking and whimpering. When she raised her head she saw him in the doorway exactly as he had a moment before.
"What is it, şekerim?" he asked groggily. She couldn't speak, only whined. He rushed in beside her. "What happened, my baby girl?" She stared at him, studying his features as well as she could in the dim light.
"I just ... I need to turn on this light." She snapped the lamp on, and he squinted. "Let me see ... smile for me," she said, trembling. He smiled at her, showing his teeth. There were no fangs.
Chloé sighed and held her chest.
"Please, tell me what's wrong."
"I just had a bad dream," she confessed.
"About me, yes?"
"Yes. I dreamt you had fangs and you finally showed me your real form."
