The Beginning

Gunshots fired in the air as three men wearing blacked-out tactical gear ran across the street. Making their way into an apartment, one of them slams the door shut behind them.

"Shit Jackal, did you get bit at all!?" One of them asked. Jackal checked himself before shaking his head.

"What about you Dozer-" The man stopped as he turned to see a grotesque zombie standing around 7'2" with a brutish stature. The brute charged at them at full speed. Jackal and Dozer managed to move out of the way but Riot wasn't as lucky. Riot was thrown out a window by the brute. As he hit the ground, a groan came from him. Riot held his gut while slowly getting back up onto his feet.

Jackal being the quick thinker he is, he quickly grabs his only grenade and chucks it at the brute. It exploded, sending chunks of the brute all over the place.

"Haha, good shit Jackal. I'm going to go check up on Riot" Dozer said as he ran outside to see if his friend was alright. Seeing Riot holding his gut, he quickly ran over to him and wrapped his arm around his shoulder.

"Heh thanks, Dozer I appreciate the help" Riot laughed a little before coughing. They'd make their way back over to Jackal who was now inspecting what was left of the brute.

"Look man I get you like science or whatever but now's not the time to be fucking around with the corpse of a dead person," Dozer said with a stern tone. Jackal shook his head and started walking upstairs where they would be staying for a while.

Once they were settled down, Riot made sure his guns were clean as he wasn't trying to have another gun jam. Jackal on the other hand attempted to teach Dozer how to do sign language as it wasn't his specialty. however, he wanted to learn just in case.

It was now late at night. Dozer was asleep and Jackal was fiddling with his helmet. Riot however was keeping watch by looking out the window every so often. Groans from the zombies below were quite distracting to Jackal.

"Hey keep an eye on Dozer, I'm going to head up to the roof and get some fresh air," Riot stated. As he began to walk, a loud crash came from below. Zombies began filling the bottom floor.

"Hmm...what's happening.." Dozer asked while rubbing his eyes. Jackal covered his mouth and put his finger up to where his lips were, indicating for him to shut up.

"Shh, grab you're shit, and let's head up to the roof. There should hopefully be a ladder we can use to get out of here." Riot whispered. Soon the three were on the roof, making their way over to the ladder. One by one they made their way down to the ladder and onto the street. Sneaking around the zombies was a bit of a pain with all the gear they had.

Dozer being the clumsy idiot he is, ends up dropping his walkie-talkie on the ground, alerting the zombies. "You fucking idiot! We gotta run, like now!!" Riot shouted in a panic.

The three of them ran as fast as they could. Some of the zombies were quite fast and were beginning to catch up to them. Both Jackal and Riot turned around and began shooting some of them so they could buy some time.

"Guys over there, we can use the cover of the trees to hide or at least lose them long enough to find somewhere to stay," Dozer shouted. Riot and Jackal holstered their guns and ran up towards the woods with Dozer. Leaves and twigs crunched under their boots as they ran. Dozer was getting tired since he was wearing heavier gear than the other two.

"C-can you guys slow down? I need to take a breather-" Jackal sighed and gestured for Riot to stop. Now and then, Riot looked around their surroundings to make sure the zombies didn't follow them. Jackal walked around a bit with his binoculars, trying to find somewhere they could stay. A farmhouse in the far distance grabbed Jackal's attention. He tapped Riot's shoulder and pointed towards the farmhouse.

"Oh shit, nice find. We could probably stay there for a bit." Riot said with a smile under his mask. Dozer stood up since he was leaning against a tree and brushed himself off. They began walking towards the farmhouse while looking behind them now and then.

Once they walked up onto the farmhouse porch, Dozer kicked the door down without hesitation. "Dude what the hell, for all we know another survivor could be living here??" Riot said in annoyance towards Dozer.

"It's not that big of a deal and even if there is someone here there's three of us and one of them," Dozer replied. Jackal shook his head and walked inside. Each of them took turns checking each room. Seeing that the house was empty, Jackal and Dozer began setting up their bedrolls. Riot, on the other hand, stood outside with his gun in hand. It was still his turn to keep guard. The moonlight illuminated the woods so Riot didn't have a hard time seeing what was in front of him. He let out a sigh before sitting down against the door. "It's going to be a long night."
