A Friend Like A brother

Riot lunged up, his breathing was heavy and he was sweating a waterfall. He looked around in a panic, something startled him. "What was that? am I hearing things?" Riot questioned himself.

Jackal soon awoke next to Riot. He rubbed his eyes and held his gut. To Jackal's surprise, the bullet from Sparrow's gun didn't go through his vest. He turned and looked over at Riot. "Hey, are you alright? You look like you've seen a Ghost or something.." Jackal said, doing his best to humor Riot.

"huh? Yeah, I'm fine, it just felt like someone was in the building with us.." he said. Jackal raised a brow but just assumed that Riot was hallucinating.

The rain outside picked up, along with the wind. "It's getting worse outside huh," Jackal said to Riot, However, Riot ignored his comment and stood up. Riot began putting whatever he could in front of the store doors.

"What are you doing-" Jackal asked. "Shh..listen.." Riot hushed Jackal. All Jackal could hear was the rain hitting the ground. "What? the rai-" Jackal began hearing footsteps and groans.

"Quick! help me block the entrance" Riot said. Jackal leaped up and started helping Riot. It wasn't long before whatever was walking around outside began banging on the doors. "WALKERS? fuckin' hell." Jackal grabbed his gun and prepared for them to break in.

"Damn, that won't hold. Come on follow me!" Riot said. Jackal followed him towards the emergency exit and the pair made a break for it.

Riot ran as fast as he could until they reached the woods tree line. "Wait! what about Dozer?" Jackal asked. "We don't have time to find him, he's also a trained soldier he'll be fine." Riot did his best to convince Jackal to come with him.

"It's not right! What happened to never leave a man behind!" Jackal clenched his fist and bit his tongue. "Sometimes you have to break the rules! Not to mention if we go back we might not come back so either one of us go down or we all go down, so what's it going to be?" Riot glared at him, awaiting an answer.

"Fine. Just know I don't like this one bit." Jackal mumbled. "That's fine with me." The pair began running once more. They were completely soaked and hypothermia was on its way.

They soon came to a complete stop next to a steep hill leading downwards. "What now?" Jackal asked. "We go down.." Jackal shook his head in disbelief. "We are going to freeze out here in this damn rain and you want us to go down this muddy ass hill just to have to run for who knows how long?"

"Well, what else do you want us to do? If there's a chance of survival, I'm going to take it!" Riot shouted. There was a moment of silence before several shots flew by, nearly hitting them both. A bright light from several flashlights began getting closer and closer to them.

"COME ON, WE HAVE TO GO!" Riot shouted before running down the hill. Jackal was quick to follow behind. The pair ran as fast as they could as shots flew by them. Jackal managed to get behind a tree to avoid the passing bullets. Riot didn't notice this so he kept on running before getting shot in the back of the leg.

Riot yelped in pain as he fell and rolled down the rest of the hill. He struggled to get back on his two feet but he wasn't going to allow this to be his fate. Once he reached the bottom, he did his best to get up and run. He was only able to run for about five minutes before the adrenaline wore off. Riot began feeling immense pain from the bullet wound, it was almost unbearable for him. He quickly sat down behind a tree and held his leg.

Jackal looked around for Riot but nothing was in view. It didn't help that it was in the middle of the night and they didn't have any source of light. As he sprinted through the woods, thunder rumbled beneath his feet. However, something caught his attention. Jackal turned to the side and saw Riot sitting against a tree. He was quick to make sure Riot was okay.

"Hey, you good? we have to keep moving.." Jackal asked. Riot shook his head and gestured for him to look at his leg. "Oh, they got you good..shit. Alright, I'm going to lift you up" he said. Riot nodded and Jackal helped him up. Riot wrapped his arm around his neck and the pair began walking once more.

The pursuers were quick to catch up with them but the duo didn't want to stop there. Riot pointed out the fallen over trees to their right. Jackal swiftly turned to the side and walked them over to the fallen tree.

"We'll have to lay next to this and pray that we don't get caught.." Riot explains. As Jackal carefully laid Riot on the other side of the tree, both of them trembled from the biting cold of the rain. The sound of raindrops pelting Riot's goggles made it clear that they needed to find shelter immediately.

"Hey if we don't make it out of this, just know, you're like a brother to me.."
