Trust issues (3)

I gave a simple nod in response to this and said, "We can't change the fact that we are family, that is something that we just have to live with. We can't choose who we are family with, but at least we can make the best of it."

I didn't give her any false hopes or such, I just told her straight.

After all, sometimes being straightforward really was the best way to go.

Sometimes, trying to give false hope would actually hurt you since it would create an unrealistic image that would come to bite you in the butt later.

Instead, it was better to tell the truth.

My cousin looked at me with a complicated look for a bit before slowly giving a nod of agreement.

It seemed that she at least agreed with what I had said.

But that just caused another awkward silence since neither of us knew how to take the next step.

After all, even if we were family, we were still strangers.
