The fear of losing her

Silas's heart sank for a moment; everything suddenly started to appear dark in his eyes.

Firstly, it was a call from his grandfather who proceeded to discourage him from pursuing his mate, stating he had found someone more "suitable" for him. Secondly, it was the sight of his mate laughing joyfully with a stranger and his children.

Everything got to him.

Silas always cherished seeing Tabitha smile and laugh, but this time, her laughter in another man's company pained his heart. His mood soured, and he couldn't think clearly for a moment.

Silas remained where he stood, observing Tabitha playing with the man's children. With his keen hearing, he listened in on their conversation. They were discussing something related to children, a topic Silas couldn't relate to since he didn't share Tabitha's fondness for kids.

Silas didn't interrupt them; he was consumed by the thought that Tabitha couldn't be his, and all his efforts would inevitably end in failure.
