Silas only smiled at Lucinda's remarks before turning to glance at Tabitha, noticing her hopeless demeanor as she seemingly tried to subconsciously reduce her presence. It was the sight he hated the most—one where his mate lost her confidence and felt sad.
Silas shifted his gaze back to Lucinda, noting her triumphant smile as if she had been victorious over something.
"What's your view on my spec, Mrs. Jones?" Silas inquired in a strong, confident tone, fully aware of his authority in the room and Lucinda's attempt to criticize the woman he desired.
"Well..." Lucinda stammered and paused, uncertain of what to say.
"She's illegitimate, and I don't believe she'd hold any significance for you. She doesn't bring any additional interest or profit to your business but would tarnish its reputation. There are other women who would fit that role perfectly," Lucinda explained, glancing at Tabitha.
